Overview

Barnes-Jewish Hospital, located at Washington University Medical Center, is Missouri's largest hospital and ranked among the nation's top hospitals by U.S. News & World Report. Its staff includes full-time academic faculty and community physicians affiliated with Washington University School of Medicine, supported by residents, interns, fellows, and other medical professionals. Recognized for excellence in nursing, Barnes-Jewish Hospital was the first adult hospital in Missouri to earn Magnet designation by the American Nurses Credentialing Center.

Our Acute Care Medicine units manage patients with a wide range of clinical issues, including blood dyscrasias, endocrine disorders, heart and renal failure, GI conditions, infectious diseases, and asthma. Due to patient acuity, we provide advanced training to help new nurses reach high levels of proficiency. Each unit is led by a clinical manager and charge nurse, supported by an advanced practice nurse, case managers, social workers, physical therapists, dietitians, and pharmacists, working collaboratively to deliver quality care.


Preferred Qualifications

Role Purpose: Provides direct patient care activities, including assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation, within the standards of nursing care.

Responsibilities:

  • Promotes patient and family-centered care in a healing environment, educating patients and families on managing their illness, post-treatment home care, and medication administration.
  • Participates in activities that enhance patient safety, quality, and regulatory compliance; engages in professional development.
  • Develops, implements, and documents individualized care plans with clear goals, collaborating with the interprofessional team and patients/families, ensuring communication across care continuum.
  • Uses critical nursing skills to assess and evaluate physical, psychosocial, and emotional needs, considering patient preferences, values, and cultural factors.
  • This is a safety-sensitive position; the ability to work alertly and safely is essential.
Minimum Requirements

Education: Nursing Diploma or Associate's Degree in Nursing

Experience: No experience required

Licenses & Certifications: RN license

Preferred Requirements

Education: Bachelor's Degree in Nursing

Experience: Less than 2 years
