Job summary

American Oncology Partners, PA is seeking a qualified oncology nurse to provide safe, accurate patient care at the Loudoun and Reston clinics. You will perform patient assessments, review labs and vital signs, verify doses, and administer chemotherapy and related therapies.

You will educate patients, triage calls, document in EMR, follow JBIs, and uphold OSHA/NIOSH and ONS standards. Travel to other clinic locations is required (<25%), with Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM shifts.

Qualifications

• Education: Nursing degree is required.
• Licenses: Unencumbered RN license in state of employment or multi-state license.
• Certifications: CPR and BLS current.
• Experience: Experience with hematology/oncology patients in clinic or hospital setting.

Responsibilities

• Safely and accurately administer chemotherapy, immunotherapy, biotherapy, supportive care, and non-oncologic agents per providers' orders.
• Educate patients and caregivers about medications, side effects, and treatment plans.
• Triage calls and messages; respond within appropriate timeframes.

Location: Oncology/Hematology of Loudoun and Reston

Pay Range: $28.38 - $52.71

Job Description Summary

Provides safe, accurate and efficient patient care, including but not limited to patient assessment, review of labs and vital signs, medication safety, dose verification, and drug administration. Follows all Job Breakdown Instructions (JBIs) associated with role. Provides triage care when necessary and communicates patient condition effectively to multidisciplinary team members.

Key Performance Areas

• Safely and accurately administer chemotherapy, immunotherapy, biotherapy, supportive care, and non‑oncologic agents to patients as ordered by providers.
• Employ Oncology Nurse’s Society (ONS) standards and guidelines.
• Disposal of biohazardous waste in accordance with OSHA and NIOSH guidelines.
• Provide new and ongoing patient education, continual patient assessment, and support.

Documentation

Thorough, accurate and timely documentation in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) of treatment rendered. Ensure appropriate charges are captured by following guidelines for all medications and activities. Follow proper patient identification per JBI for all encounters.

Teaching & Patient Education

Educate patients and caregivers about medications, side effects, and the planned treatment course. Interact with patients and families in a caring, professional manner.

Telephone Triage

Prioritize incoming calls and messages from patients, family members, hospitals, nursing facilities, pharmacies, and physician offices, ranging from emergent to non‑urgent. Respond in an appropriate time frame.

Supplies & Inventory

Assist with inventory and re‑stocking of medical supplies, recommend purchase of new items as needed, and place stock in storage areas promptly.

Training & Staff Development

Assist in training new employees related to job duties according to JBIs. Complete annual required safety and nursing trainings and attend mandatory staff meetings.

Work Schedule & Travel

Work at any company location as required, including overtime with sufficient notice. Travel <25% of standard core workdays. Standard core workdays: Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM.

Legal & Policy Compliance

Comply with all federal and state laws and regulations pertaining to patient privacy, personnel law, safety, labor, and employment law. Adhere to company and departmental policies, IT procedures, and the Disaster Plan.

Job Qualifications and Requirements

Education
• Nursing Degree

Certifications/Licenses
• Unencumbered RN License in state of employment or multi‑state license
• Current CPR and BLS certifications
• Valid Driver’s License and vehicle for travel to other clinic locations as needed

Experience
• Experience with hematology/oncology patients in a clinic or hospital setting
• Ability to assess patient needs and condition is essential
• Strong critical thinking skills and the ability to react calmly in emergency situations
• Fluency in English with excellent oral and written communication skills
