Registered Nurse – Alwyn C. Cashe State Veterans’ Nursing Home, Orlando, Orange County, FL.

Annual Salary: $67,742.74 – Paid bi‑weekly. Shift: 13‑hour shift (6:45 pm – 8:30 am). Eligible for overtime and $1.00 per hour Florida Nurses’ Association differential for qualifying shifts.

Minimum Qualifications

Position Description

The incumbent is responsible for giving ordered treatments, administering prescribed medications, providing direct ADL care, and completing diagnostic procedure requirements as requested by the attending physician on an assigned shift per established policies and procedures. Works under direct supervision of the Senior Registered Nurse Supervisor.

  • Receive verbal and telephone orders from attending physicians
  • Transcribe physician’s orders to all appropriate documentation
  • Make rounds with physicians and other health‑care personnel
  • Monitor physician’s orders for completion
  • Review and follow up on resident incidents or complaints
  • Count narcotics at shift start and end; maintain accurate narcotic records
  • Provide supervision (lead worker duties) as required
  • Supervise subordinates on assigned units
  • Review work assignments with staff and assign team members per patient needs and staffing
  • Ensure assigned CNAs are in dining room on time
  • Troubleshoot employee problems before involving supervisors
  • Recognize and respond to changes in residents’ conditions as they occur
  • Record observations accurately and concisely
  • Notify supervisor, physician, and family of changes; document notifications
  • Assist physicians with special tests and procedures within scope of Florida Nursing Practice Act
  • Receive and give reports at shift beginning and end by walking rounds
  • Complete, sign, and date MDS, RAP modules, and additional assessments on assigned residents within timeframe
  • Review and update care plans; notify chairperson of necessary changes; attend interdisciplinary care plans when requested
  • Maintain professional standards of nursing care
  • Follow local, state, and federal rules and regulations, and facility policies
  • Attend mandatory and non‑mandatory in‑services, meetings, care plans, and MDS as required
  • Ensure economic utilization of supplies and proper charging of items to residents’ accounts
  • Ensure equipment is maintained in a clean and safe manner
  • Maintain valid CPR certification and perform as needed
  • Perform all other related duties as assigned by supervisor
