Job summary

Quadrant, Inc. is seeking an Experienced Registered Nurse for Newport News, VA. Pay starts at $33 per hour. Must hold Virginia RN license, have BLS, and be willing to obtain ACLS and PALS.

Responsibilities include pre-op/PACU care, patient education, IV starts, and recovery room management in a surgical setting. 2+ years of experience preferred; strong teamwork in a fast-paced center is essential.

Qualifications

• Must have active Virginia Registered Nurse license.
• Minimum 2 years of nursing experience.
• Experience in preoperative and/or PACU in a surgical setting required.
• Active BLS must be maintained; ACLS and PALS certification expected.

Responsibilities

• Prepare for arrival of patients to the surgery center with supplies and equipment.
• Review charts/health histories to ensure pre-operative evaluations are complete.
• Admit and prepare patients for surgery and provide ongoing information.
• Perform nursing assessments, start IVs and administer medications.
• Communicate with health care team to ensure continuity of care.
• Receive patients in recovery and monitor status, document care.
• Provide discharge instructions and obtain caregiver understanding.
• Document charges for supplies and assist with inventory control.
• Follow up with patients the day after surgery for assessments.
• Assist with ordering drugs and supplies and provide patient education.

MUST:

• Experienced Registered Nurse
• 2 plus years of experience
• Must have experience in Preoperative and/or PACU
• Must have experience working in a surgical environment
• Must have a valid Registered Nurse License in Virginia
• Must have an active BLS
• Must be willing to become ACLS and PALS certified

DUTIES:

• Prepare for arrival of patients to the surgery center by ensuring that proper supplies and equipment are available.
• Review the patient chart and health history to assure that the necessary pre-operative evaluations have been completed. Ensure that consent form has been signed.
• Admit and prepare patients for surgery. Provide ongoing information to the patient and his caregiver to assure that they understand all procedures and feel as comfortable as possible.
• Perform nursing assessment of patient, start IV and ordered medications.
• Communicate with other health care team members to assure continuity of care.
• Receive patient in the recovery room after surgery.
• Assess and evaluate the patient. Continuously monitor the patient during his recovery phase. Document the status of the patient and the care provided.
• Provide discharge instructions to the patient and his caregiver, asking for confirmation of understanding.
• Document charges for all supplies used during the pre-op and recovery phase.
• Perform follow up patient assessment by calling the patient the day after surgery.
• Remain prepared for emergency situations by knowing correct emergency procedures, locations of emergency call system and location of emergency supplies and equipment
• Complete all necessary documentation on Recovery Room nurses' record.
• Assist with ordering drugs and supplies.
• Provide patient education during all phases of the patient's experience at the Center.
• Ensure that the proper supplies and equipment are available in the Pre-Op and PACU.
• Ensure that equipment is functioning properly.
• Charge for all supplies used in Pre-Op and PACU. Assist with inventory control by proper count of supplies/time.
