Special Kids is a nonprofit Christian therapy and nursing center for children with special needs in Murfreesboro, TN. Nurses at Special Kids’ Kleinau Nursing Center care for medically fragile children in collaboration with therapists and an interdisciplinary team.

Part-time 20 or 29 hours per week; no evenings, weekends or holidays. The Registered Nurse role requires a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, an active Tennessee RN license, and CPR certification.

Responsibilities

• Coordinates and supervises nursing activities for the assigned shift.
• Creates daily work assignments for Children’s Activity Leader and CNA’s, according to patient care census and acuity.
• Completes and documents initial assessments for new patients in the Skilled Nursing program.
• Collaborates with Medical Director and therapy staff as part of the interdisciplinary team.
• Performs head-to-toe assessments, documents vital signs in EHR.
• Administers prescribed medications and treatments per nursing standards and documents in EHR.
• Maintains patient comfort and safety including diapering, toileting, positioning, and bed making.
• Observes patients and documents events, reactions, and interventions in EHR.
• Notifies supervisor/physician of patient condition changes; coordinates new orders.
• Responds to medical emergencies per policies; guides team response.
• Provides patient/family education and support.
• Participates in department quality improvement and meetings.

SPECIAL KIDS IS A NON-PROFIT CHRISTIAN THERAPY AND NURSING CENTER FOR CHILDREN WITH SPECIAL NEEDS.

We are licensed professionals, but first we are Christ followers with a mission to “serve Jesus Christ by caring for His children.” Special Kids offers professional services to children ages 3 months through 21 years. Nurses at Special Kids’ Kleinau Nursing Center serve medically fragile children who need skilled nursing care, in collaboration with physical therapists, occupational therapists, recreational therapists and speech therapists. Part-time 20 or 29 hours per week positions available. No evenings, weekends or holidays.

Summary

Provides care for the medical needs and assists with activities of daily living for children enrolled in the Skilled Nursing program.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

include the following. Other duties within scope of practice may be assigned.

• Coordinates and supervises nursing activities for the assigned shift.


• Creates daily work assignments for Children’s Activity Leader and CNA’s, according to patient care census, acuity and facility needs.


• Completes and documents initial assessments for new patients enrolled in the Skilled Nursing program.


• Collaborates with Medical Director, Therapy Clinic Manager, therapists, and other members of the interdisciplinary healthcare team.


• Provides daily head-to-toe assessment of assigned patients, including vital signs, and documents in electronic health record (EHR).


• Administers prescribed medications and treatments such as catheterizations, nebulizer treatments, chest physiotherapy, oral and tube feedings in accordance with professional nursing standards, policies and procedures, and documents administration in EHR.


• Maintains awareness of comfort and safety needs of patients by assisting them with duties such as diaper changes, toileting, positioning, and making beds.


• Observes patient, and documents significant events, conditions, reactions and interventions in EHR.


• Notifies supervisor and/or the patient’s physician of patient’s condition and reaction to drugs, treatments, and significant incidents.


• Requests new orders from patient’s physician in response to changes reported by caregiver or changes in patient’s condition.


• Responds to and coordinates team response to medical emergencies involving assigned patients, based on nursing standards, policies and procedures.


• Offers guidance to Children’s Activity Leaders working with the same group of patients.


• Provides and documents patient and family education.


• Participates in department quality improvement activities including, but not limited to, departmental training, routine staff meetings, and routine one-to-one meetings.


• Cleans work area and equipment as assigned and as needed throughout the day.


• Attends meetings and conferences and participates in other activities to promote professional growth.

No shifts, evenings or weekends.
