Job description

Position Number: 22150885
County: Craighead
Posting End Date: September 7, 2026
The Home and Community Based Services programs have 64 Registered Nurses located across the state for the management of approximately 10,000 frail Arkansans. Each RN has an average caseload of approximately 160 clients who meet nursing home admission level of care eligibility or physical needs which require assistance with personal care. RNs have to assess and reassess the clients in the counties, as well as develop individualized plans of care and provide oversight to the numerous providers to ensure waiver services are delivered timely and appropriately. Without approved documentation of level of care assessments and plan of care evaluation, services cannot continue. Many of the individuals would be forced into a nursing home which does not support the long-term care rebalancing initiatives for the Department of Human Services.

This is an Extra Help position that can work up to 1800 hours per Fiscal Year. This position carries no state benefits / leave accrual.

Special Work Conditions/Preferences: POSITION MAY BE HOUSED IN DIFFERENT DHS OFFICE THAN LISTED. In-state and occasional overnight travel. Must be able to drive car, travel by foot to various locations, climb stairs, read/follow map directions. Independently travel to locations including but not limited to: client residences, hospitals, nursing homes, rehab facilities, DHS offices, and provider agencies. VERIFICATION OF LICENSURE IS COMPLETED THROUGH THE ARKANSAS STATE BOARD OF NURSING ONLINE SEARCH REGISTRY. DISCIPLINARY ACTION(S) WILL BE REVIEWED AND CONSIDERED WHEN SELECTING APPLICANT FOR HIRE. Computer skills including but not limited to Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel. One to two years verifiable RN work experience with in- home services programs or programs providing services to aged or disabled individuals. STRONG ORGANIZATIONAL AND TIME MANAGEMENT SKILLS PREFERRED.

The Department of Human Services is a place for people passionate about serving others and changing lives for the better. We care for Arkansans of all ages and ensure places like child care centers and nursing homes are safe. We are the safety net for the most vulnerable Arkansans. Whether you answer the phones, take applications, protect children, or help care for residents or patients at one of our facilities, you make a difference by working at DHS. Plus, working for the State has great perks, including a pension, maternity leave, paid state holidays, and much more. At DHS, we take care of our employees so you can help care for others.
