Job summary

Pay Range

Base pay: $35.00/hr – $45.00/hr. Benefits include full medical coverage, PTO, and a 401(k) with 4% employer match.

Location

Insight Hospital and Medical Center Chicago, Bronzeville area, Chicago, IL. Full-time and part-time positions available. Must be licensed in Illinois.

Responsibilities
  • Uses the nursing process, critical thinking skills, professional judgment, and the attributes of Careful Nursing to provide care for an assigned population of patients.
  • Assesses patient needs to determine care requirements.
  • Plans care and delegates tasks to ancillary personnel based on patient assessment.
  • Evaluates patient response to care provided and makes changes in plan for care as needed.
  • Promotes patient/family independence through provision of education related to patient's condition, treatment, medications and on-going self-care requirements.
  • Participates in the professional advancement system by maintaining skills at a Level I status.
  • Demonstrates awareness of organizational values, mission and philosophy through interactions with physicians, patients and peers.
  • Demonstrates basic ability to apply the nursing process (assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation and documentation).Completes unit orientation within the stated time frame.
  • Functions independently within established protocols, policies and procedures.
  • Seeks appropriate resources in a timely fashion.
  • Demonstrates basic unit specific competencies.
  • Meets productivity and quality standards for unit; able to care for an average workload. Demonstrates clear verbal and written communication skills. Plans and demonstrates appropriate delegation of duties and follow-up.
  • Participates and documents client specific teaching and discharge planning.
  • Gives clear, concise report (shift, transfer, discharge etc.).
  • Provides clear, concise legible documentation.
  • Assumes responsibility for professional education and development.
  • Completes mandatory in-service requirements.
  • Completes at least 8 hours of continuing education in addition to mandatory requirements within the last year that is specific to daily clinical practice.
  • Verbalizes an understanding of the committee structure and function in the Department of Nursing and at the unit level.
  • Assures high levels of quality of care through compliance with regulatory standards, reference to current research related to patient care outcome and participation in the data collection and analysis process of ongoing quality monitoring.
  • Uses supplies in a cost effective and efficient manner, and works with the management team to make unit supply level adjustments, additions and revisions.
  • Ensures that care is provided for all patients utilizing the attributes of Careful Nursing.

Qualifications
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing required.
  • Current RN License in the State of Illinois required.
  • Completion of a Basic Arrhythmia Course within one (1) year of hire.
  • Completion of NIH Stroke Scale Training Course within one (1) year of hire in Intensive Care, Telemetry, Stroke Unit, ED required.
  • Current CPR certification required.
  • ACLS certification preferred, required within first year of Intensive Care, Telemetry, ED, GI Lab, SDS, PACU.
  • PALS certification required within first year for ED, Pediatrics, PACU.
  • NRP certification required within the first year for Special Care Nursery.
  • Ability to quickly recognize changes in condition and needs of patients.
  • Knowledge of patients’ growth and development needs.
  • Ability to maintain a high degree of accuracy in carrying out work duties.
