Qualifications
- Illinois Registered Nurse License.
- Current CPR-AED certification for the Professional Rescuer.
- Illinois Certification as a Vision and Hearing Screening technician or ability to obtain.
- Good communication/interpersonal skills.
- Computer literacy, proficient in Microsoft Office and various software programs.
- Competency in the use of current medical technology.
- Prior professional nursing experience, preferably pediatric, adolescent, community or mental health nursing, and health program management.
Responsibilities
- Provide first aid, tend to illnesses, and provide emergency care to students and staff, in accordance with professional standards, school policies, and state regulations.
- Administer medication safely, with proper documentation and follow-up.
- Maintain accurate medical records, including immunizations, vision, dental/physical exams, and medical conditions.
- Perform mandated vision and hearing screenings, follow up on referrals.
- Assess and refer suspected abuse/neglect cases as a mandated reporter.
- Collaborate with teachers, school personnel, and parents/guardians to ensure student health and safety.
- Provide health education and services to promote wellness.
- Complete incident reports and report data to relevant agencies.
- Maintain confidentiality of all health and district information.
- Coordinate with community health agencies and families to support student health.
- Maintain health records, logs, and supplies.
- Utilize technology effectively in daily duties.
- Participate in multidisciplinary planning for students requiring accommodations.
- Implement health plans, 504 plans, and IEPs for students needing nursing interventions.
- Engage in professional development and maintain membership in nursing organizations.
- Participate in district and school health initiatives, including staff in-services and team meetings.
Work Environment
Responsible for working in typical indoor school settings, occasionally outdoors or in the evenings, with exposure to communicable conditions and moderate noise levels. Reasonable accommodations will be provided as needed.
