Job description

Registered Mental Health Counseling Intern (RMHCI)

Registered Intern (Post-Master's)

Post-master's clinician accumulating hours toward independent licensure

VIVA Psychotherapy is a boutique mental health practice dedicated to helping individuals, children, and families navigate life's challenges with resilience and vitality. Founded by Lidiana Cartolano, our practice provides culturally competent, bilingual care (English/Portuguese). We pride ourselves on creating a safe, welcoming environment for our clients and a streamlined, organized experience for our clinicians.

We serve a diverse population, including children, adolescents, and adults, navigating the intersections of thoughts, emotions, and actions. At VIVA, we don't just treat symptoms; we empower our clients to reclaim their lives and foster more fulfilling relationships through evidence-based modalities.

Role Overview

VIVA Psychotherapy is seeking a dedicated Registered Mental Health Counseling Intern to join our team. This position is designed for post-master's clinicians who have graduated from an accredited Counseling program and are actively accumulating hours toward independent licensure in a private practice setting.

Join a practice that values linguistic diversity and holistic healing; this role offers a unique opportunity to provide therapy to immigrant populations and individuals navigating cross-cultural identities.

Please Note: VIVA Psychotherapy provides the clinical placement, administrative support, and client pipeline, but does not provide a Board-Approved Qualified Supervisor. Candidates must have or independently secure their own external qualified supervisor to sign off on their registered intern hours.

Key Responsibilities
  • Clinical Practice: Maintain a curated caseload of individual adult, adolescent, and child clients
  • Documentation: Conduct initial biopsychosocial assessments for new clients, and complete progress notes and treatment plans in a timely manner using our EHR system
  • Administrative Compliance: Coordinate regularly with your external Board-Approved Qualified Supervisor to ensure all state licensing paperwork and hours are properly documented
  • Collaboration: Participate in weekly VIVA staff meetings and internal case consultations, and collaborate with the Clinical Director on community outreach initiatives or psychoeducational content
  • Special Projects: Develop a "Special Project" (e.g., a support group or workshop) based on your specific clinical interests and niche
  • Professional Development: Attend internal training on topics such as CBT, Trauma-Informed Care, and Ethics
Qualifications
Required
  • Education & Credentials: Must hold a Master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling (or equivalent) from an accredited program and be actively registered (or eligible for registration) as a Mental Health Counseling Intern with the state board
  • Supervision: Must have an established contract/agreement with an external Board-Approved Qualified Supervisor prior to seeing clients
  • Clinical Skills: Strong foundational coursework in Ethics, Counseling Theories, and Diagnostic Skills
  • Cultural Humility: Strong interpersonal skills and a deep commitment to cultural humility and trauma-informed care
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and HIPAA compliance
Preferred
  • Linguistic Diversity: Fluency in Portuguese or Spanish is a significant plus, as we serve a large multicultural and immigrant community
  • Previous clinical experience across diverse populations including children, adolescents, and adults
  • Special interest in cross-cultural counseling or immigrant populations
What We Offer
  • Clinical placement within an established private practice
  • Streamlined administrative support — we handle marketing, scheduling, and billing so you can focus on clinical work
  • A steady client pipeline and referral stream
  • Collaborative environment with weekly staff meetings and internal case consultations
  • Internal training on evidence-based practices such as CBT, Trauma-Informed Care, and Ethics
  • Opportunity to develop and implement a special project based on your clinical niche
  • A practice that values linguistic diversity and holistic healing
Location & Work Arrangement
  • Work Type: Registered Intern (Post-Master's), accumulating hours towards independent licensure
  • Experience Required: Post-master's clinician actively registered (or eligible for registration) as a Mental Health Counseling Intern
  • Supervision: Candidate must independently secure their own external Board-Approved Qualified Supervisor

Ready to advance toward independent licensure in a practice that values "VIVA" - life and vitality? We look forward to learning more about how you can contribute to our clinical team.
