Job summary

University Hospital seeks a Registered Dietitian to plan, develop, implement, and coordinate nutrition care for outpatient cancer patients, from assessment through survivorship and palliative care.

Responsibilities include nutrition assessment, Care Plan development, counseling, and education for oncology patients and families. RD with 2+ years in acute care is preferred; bilingual Spanish is highly desirable.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Dietetics, Nutrition, or a related field is required.
  • Registered Dietitian (RD) credential through the Commission on Dietetic Registration is required.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience as a Registered Dietitian in an acute care setting.
  • Experience with oncology patients and enteral nutrition is highly preferred.
  • Membership in the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics is required.

  • Develop, implement, and monitor individualized nutrition care plans.
  • Provide ongoing nutrition counseling and education to oncology patients and families.

Job description

The primary purpose of the Registered Dietitian position is to plan, develop, implement, and coordinate all phases of nutritional care for patients in the outpatient Cancer Center. Primary responsibilities include Nutrition Assessment, Nutrition Care Plan Development and Follow-Up, Nutrition Education, and Nutrition Counseling for oncology patients. Provides nutrition and hydration requirements and recommendations throughout the continuum of cancer care, including prevention, diagnosis, treatment, survivorship, and palliative care. Provides treatment-related symptom management, nutrition support, and addresses quality-of-life concerns through medical nutrition therapy, patient education, and lifestyle recommendations for survivorship, health promotion, and disease prevention.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct comprehensive nutrition assessments for patients receiving care at the Cancer Center.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor individualized nutrition care plans tailored to each patient's needs.
  • Provide ongoing nutrition counseling and education to oncology patients and their families.
  • Coordinate all aspects of nutritional care throughout the patient's cancer treatment journey.
  • Assess and recommend appropriate nutrition and hydration strategies across the continuum of care, including prevention, diagnosis, treatment, survivorship, and palliative care.
  • Manage nutrition-related side effects and treatment complications through evidence-based medical nutrition therapy.
  • Provide nutrition support interventions to improve patient outcomes and quality of life.
  • Educate patients on healthy lifestyle practices that promote survivorship, wellness, and disease prevention.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams to ensure optimal nutritional management of oncology patients.
  • Promote health maintenance and long-term wellness through individualized dietary.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Dietetics, Nutrition, or a related field required.
  • Registered Dietitian (RD) credential through the Commission on Dietetic Registration required.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience as a Registered Dietitian in an acute care setting.
  • Candidates with oncology experience and experience caring for patients with enteral nutrition are highly preferred.
  • Experience working with the oncology population strongly preferred.
  • Membership in the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics required.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement new initiatives.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills required.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize patient care, and manage multiple responsibilities effectively.
  • Strong collaboration skills and ability to function as an integral member of the Oncology team.
  • Board Certified Specialist in Oncology Nutrition (CSO) certification preferred.
  • Dynamic, motivated, and patient-focused professional with a commitment to quality care and innovation.
  • Bilingual in Spanish is highly desirable.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to participate in community outreach, patient education, and health promotion activities.

Compensation

In compliance with New Jersey’s Pay Transparency Act, the salary range for this position is PS/25S: $71,728 - $102,903 per year per year. University Hospital considers multiple factors when determining compensation, including (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s relevant work experience, education and training, key skills, internal equity, market data, and organizational needs. The expected salary range for this position is in accordance with the New Jersey Pay Transparency Law; final compensation will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
