The Children's Hospital of Richmond at VCU is hiring a dietitian with experience in initiating and managing the nutrition care of children needing the ketogenic diet. This dietitian will help establish a new service as part of our nationally accredited Level 4 Epilepsy center. The position supports both outpatient and inpatient management of these patients. The ideal candidate will have well-rounded experience in nutrition care for children with developmental disabilities, including nutrition support, and possess strong communication skills.

Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for Hire:
- Registered Dietitian (RD) by the Commission on Dietetic Registration of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics
- For Clinical Nutrition I: May be registry eligible, but must pass the RD exam within the first 6 months of employment.

Advancement from Clinical Nutrition I to Clinical Nutrition II is required one year after passing the RD exam.

Requirements for Continued Employment:
- Maintenance of RD status with the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics
- CPR training for outpatient nutrition clinic practice

Experience REQUIRED:
- Clinical Nutrition I: Less than one year providing nutrition care in an acute care setting
- Clinical Nutrition II: One or more years providing nutrition care in an acute care setting as a Registered Dietitian (unless grandfathered under previous requirements)

Experience PREFERRED:
- For Clinical Nutrition II: Experience in counseling in outpatient or acute care settings, especially if in outpatient clinical areas.

Education/training REQUIRED:
- Bachelor's Degree in Nutrition or related field from an accredited institution.

Preferred:
- Specialty certifications in practice areas
- Certificates in Adult and Childhood & Adolescent Weight Management
- Motivational interviewing training
- Clinical research protocol experience (for applicable positions)

Independent Actions:
- Perform nutrition care activities per departmental policies
- Cannot provide nutrition care to end-stage renal patients until one year post-registration
- After competency assessment, modify diets, order snacks/supplements, manage enteral feedings, and measure patient metrics
- Communicate with healthcare team and food service regarding patient needs
- Provide staff in-services

Supervisory responsibilities: N/A

Additional requirements:
- Work weekends as scheduled
- Ability to work in diverse environments
- Adhere to the Code of Ethics for dietetics
- Travel to satellite clinics as needed
- Pediatric outpatient roles may require evening hours

Age groups served: As appropriate based on assignment.

Physical requirements:
- Lifting less than 20 lbs.
- Activities include standing, sitting, bending, walking, climbing, reaching, repetitive motions
- Sensory skills include recall, reasoning, problem-solving, hearing, speaking, reading
- Environment may be fast-paced, noisy, requiring adaptability
