Job summary

Banner Health in Tucson, AZ seeks a Registered Dietitian to partner with medical, nursing and culinary teams to deliver high‑quality nutrition care on a day shift. You will perform nutrition assessments, develop care plans, monitor outcomes and educate patients and families.

The role requires RD eligibility, a nutrition degree, licensure, and strong communication; advanced nutrition support knowledge is a plus.

Qualifications

Schedule

Tuesday through Saturday; flexible start between 7:00 am and 8:30 am.

Responsibilities

As a Registered Dietitian, you will interact closely with medical providers, administration, nursing staff, therapy teams, and the culinary department on‑site to support patients. You will provide comprehensive nutritional assessments, develop nutrition care plans, monitor outcomes, provide patient and family counseling and education, develop nutrition standards of practice and educational material, participate in interdisciplinary healthcare teams, and provide input into patient care policies, programs, quality improvement activities, and in‑service education.

1. Provide comprehensive nutrition assessment, including nutrition‑focused physical exams, and analyze data based on evidence‑based standards and guidelines.
2. Maintain competency in enteral and parenteral clinical practice protocols and oral nutrition management as demonstrated by competency exams and ongoing evaluation.
3. Write orders to initiate and manage nutrition care, including for patients receiving parenteral and enteral nutrition.
4. Evaluate effectiveness of the care plan and communicate findings to the healthcare team; document in medical records and patient plans of care.
5. Provide nutrition education to patients, families, staff, and other professionals through teaching materials and in‑service programs; evaluate responses.
6. Provide leadership in coverage, monitor procedures, and liaise with nursing areas; mentor new staff and interns as assigned.
7. Participate in continuous quality improvement activities and outcome studies; may manage assigned staff, recruiting, training, and evaluating performance.
8. Communicate effectively and provide education to ensure optimum nutritional care; may also provide community education.

Qualifications

• Must possess a Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition or Dietetics, or equivalent coursework.
• Must be a Registered Dietitian or RD‑eligible with current registration; must qualify within 6 months of hire and maintain annual verification.
• Must hold current licensure as required by state law.
• Must demonstrate effective communication and the ability to function independently and prioritize patient caseload.
• Must possess knowledge of nutrition and dietetics, including advanced knowledge of nutrition support (TPN, tube feeding, parenteral macro‑ and micronutrients).
• For positions requiring a fingerprint clearance card or criminal history affidavit—if applicable—must hold and maintain the card.
