Qualifications

**FTT Full-Time Dowagiac, MI, Dowagiac, MI, US 5 days ago Requisition ID: 2105 The Pokagon Band has an opportunity for an experienced Registered Dietitian. This role is part of our Community Health Outreach team with patient visits scheduled in our Dowagiac clinic, citizen homes, and by telehealth. A vehicle is provided for travel to home visits. A pre-hire drug (including marijuana) and alcohol screen is required along with random screenings throughout the year.

To this end, all employees have an obligation to identify and report any service problems, issues, or concerns and through designated channels, initiate, recommend, and actively participate in solutions.

Position Summary:Advise patients and their families on nutritional principles, diet modifications, food selection and preparation.

Essential Functions:

  • Meets clients' goals and needs by assessing and interpreting evaluations and test results; determining client resources and habits; determining nutritional treatment plans in consultation with physicians or by prescription.
  • Provides culturally sensitive direct client care in home, community, and institutional settings.
  • Designs and implements programs to prevent and/or achieve control in clients and families with diabetes and/or gestational diabetes through dietary and lifestyle interventions.
  • Encourages clients, families, and community by teaching nutrition principles, diet regimens and food selection preparation and economics.
  • Evaluates results of dietary guidance by observing, noting, and evaluating client’s progress towards goals, recommending and implementing adjustments and modifications in individualized nutritional plan.
  • Documents client services by charting in patient and program records.
  • Travels throughout and beyond 10-county service delivery area by car for home visits, training and seminars.
  • Maintains client confidence and protects agency operations by keeping information confidential.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
  • Provides nutrition education to health care professionals and paraprofessionals.
  • Maintains a cooperative relationship among health care team by communicating information; responding to requests; building rapport; participating in team problem-solving methods.
  • Complies with applicable Federal, State, Local, Tribal legal, and certification requirements by studying new and existing legislation; anticipating future legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; advising management on needed actions.

Non-Essential Functions:

  • Prepare healthy snacks and meals for various events and programs for tribal citizens, head start, and staff
  • Perform other related functions as assigned.

Equipment:

  • Standard office equipment.
  • Systems used: MS Office Applications, Employee medical records, and Internet.
  • Community Outreach Medical Bag including but not limited to, all supplies and materials required to complete patient/home safety assessment and equipment needed for use within nursing skills practice.

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in dietetics, food, nutrition, or related science from an accredited institution whose program of study has been recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and/or the United States Department of Education (USDE).
  • Registered Dietitian, credentialed by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR).
  • At least two (2) years’ experience in health and/or home care setting as a clinical dietician or public health nutritionist required, five (5) years’ experience is preferred.
  • Knowledge of ADA’s recognition requirements, diabetes self-management techniques and behavioral strategies.
  • Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES) or ability to obtain this within one (1) year of obtaining the position required.
  • A demonstrated ability to work independently with minimum support and to provide consultation to the healthcare team, is required.
  • Ability to work weekends, evenings, and varying hours based on clients and program needs.
  • Experience in providing services to patients in the home is preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Work is generally sedentary in nature and will frequently require sitting, however standing and walking will occasionally be necessary.
  • Frequently required to use hands and fingers to operate equipment.
  • Frequently required to talk and hear.

Work Environment:

  • Work in well-lighted, heated, air-conditioned building.
  • Local and long-distance travel is necessary, so the ability to travel as needed is required.
