Description

Registered dental hygienists are responsible for licensed professional work in providing dental hygiene services. They implement appropriate standards of care, assist dentists in providing hygiene, periodontal, or dental care and treatment, conduct assessments, develop treatment plans with dentists, and educate patients about oral and overall health care.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Administer local anesthesia under direct supervision of a dentist, having completed necessary continuing education or training.
• Administer nitrous analgesia under direct supervision, with appropriate training.
• Assess patients’ teeth, bones, and periodontal tissues for abnormalities or suspected diseases.
• Collaborate with dentists to develop periodontal treatment plans.
• Identify and report any suspected oral lesions to the dentist.
• Remove soft and hard deposits and stains using appropriate instruments.
• Educate patients on good oral hygiene practices and recommend suitable products.
• Perform prophylaxis, full mouth debridement, root planning, and other periodontal therapies as needed.
• Use lasers for periodontal procedures or whitening, with proper certification.
• Place and remove periodontal packs, apply antibiotics, and perform irrigation or desensitizing procedures.
• Expose, develop, and mount dental X-rays.
• Apply preventive agents like fluoride and sealants.
• Remove cement, make and cement temporary crowns, and recement crowns and bridges as necessary.
• Place and remove temporary sedative fillings, remove sutures, and make recare recommendations.
• Perform orthodontic procedures, take impressions, and construct whitening trays.
• Apply bleaching agents and activate with approved light sources.
• Perform other duties as permitted by state laws and regulations.

Qualifications

• Must be licensed and in good standing with the State of Florida.
• Possess an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in dental hygiene.
• Hold current BLS and CPR certification.
• Must be team-oriented, detail-oriented, with good eyesight and manual dexterity.

Working Conditions
