Description

POSITION SUMMARY: The Registered Dental Assistant II shall perform basic registered dental assistant duties such as coronal polishing, fabrication of temporary crowns, temporary filling, impression, and pit and fissure sealants. Responsibilities also include chairside assisting, rooming and dismissing patients, setting up and breaking down operatory rooms, taking x-rays, ensuring patient comfort, providing patient services, and sterilizing dental instruments and equipment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist the dentist during treatment procedures
  • Learn each dentist’s preferred practices and tray setups
  • Follow OSHA, Dental Board, and health center policies
  • Maintain patient treatment records
  • Provide oral hygiene instructions to patients
  • Set up and break down operatory rooms
  • Prepare units and equipment for treatment
  • Assess patient medical history and vital signs
  • Prepare and sterilize instruments and equipment
  • Help patients feel comfortable before, during, and after treatment
  • Provide post-operative oral care instructions
  • Teach oral hygiene strategies
  • Stock supplies
  • Travel to other clinics if needed
  • Assist with receptionist duties
  • Assist with dental referrals and billing
  • Track lab cases
  • Maintain patient records
  • Report non-compliance issues
  • Create a collaborative environment
  • Take dental radiographs
  • Assist in training new staff
  • Perform basic registered dental assistant functions as approved
  • Perform pit and fissure sealants
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications

The following are the minimum requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • One year of Registered Dental Assistant experience
  • Registered Dental Assistant License
  • Certifications in Dental Practice Act, Infection Control, Basic Life Support, Radiation Safety, Coronal Polish, and Pit and Fissure Sealants
  • Skills include professionalism, teamwork, proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Electronic Health Record Systems, multitasking, initiative, punctuality, communication, customer service, physical ability to lift 20 pounds, and mobility to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods.
Physical Demands and Work Environment

The environment is characteristic of a clinical setting. Employees must frequently sit, handle, stand, walk, reach, and occasionally lift up to 20 pounds. Visual and auditory abilities are required for communication and safety. The environment may involve contact with individuals in crisis, bodily fluids, and hazardous chemicals, with noise levels typically noisy.
