Registered Dental Assistants perform a variety of patient care, office, and laboratory duties. The primary role of the Registered Dental Assistant (RDA) is to assist the dentist in gaining the patient’s commitment to the best possible treatment, with urgency. Key duties include:

1. Utilizing x-ray time to promote the good qualities of the dentist.
2. Learning the patient’s expectations while educating them with intra-oral pictures.
3. Using effective and anticipatory chair-side skills.
4. Supporting the dentist’s diagnosis after the examination and addressing patient questions.

The RDA should also abide by procedures needed for compliance with safety regulations, infection control, and permitted duties.

Responsibilities

• Assist the dentist to gain the patient’s commitment for the best treatment with urgency.
• Participate in the Perfect Patient ExperienceÔ by focusing on optimal treatment and attending to patient needs.
• Maintain a clean, sterile, and welcoming environment; prepare patients for treatment and assist the doctors to ensure efficient, quality dental care.
• Complete x-rays and intra-oral pictures as directed by the dentist.
• Instruct patients on postoperative and oral health care.
• Sterilize and disinfect instruments, equipment, and operatories following ADA guidelines.
• Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations (e.g., OSHA, HIPAA, ADA, DOL).

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED, with specified training courses mandated by the state.
• Certifications/licenses required by the state (e.g., radiograph exposure, ultrasonic scaling).
• Associate degree or certificate from an accredited institution preferred.

Compensation: $23.50 - $32.75/hourly
