Role Overview

Registered Dental Assistants perform a variety of patient care, office, and laboratory duties. The primary role of the RDA is to assist the dentist in gaining the patient’s commitment to the best possible treatment, with urgency. Key duties include:

• Utilizing x-ray time to promote the qualities of the dentist and educate patients with intra-oral pictures
• Using effective chair-side skills and supporting the dentist’s diagnosis
• Abiding by procedures for compliance with safety, infection control, and permitted duties

Responsibilities

• Assist the dentist to gain patient commitment for treatment with urgency
• Participate in delivering the Perfect Patient ExperienceÔ by focusing on optimal treatment and addressing patient needs
• Maintain a clean, sterile, and welcoming environment; prepare patients and assist the doctors
• Complete x-rays and intra-oral pictures as directed by the dentist
• Instruct patients on postoperative and oral health care
• Sterilize and disinfect instruments and equipment per ADA guidelines
• Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations (e.g., OSHA, HIPAA)

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED; required training courses mandated by state
• Certifications/licenses as required (e.g., radiograph exposure, coronal polish)
• Associate degree or equivalent from an accredited institution preferred
