Job Summary

At Hi-Desert Medical Center (HDMC) we've been caring for our community for over 40 years. Our Continuing Care Center (CCC), located on the campus of HDMC, provides specialized care to residents close to their own communities, with spectacular panoramic views of desert landscapes for both residents and their guests.

The CCC has 120 beds and offers three distinct levels of service in semi‑private rooms:

  • Subacute care – highest level of care available in our long‑term care setting, including 25 ventilator and tracheostomy beds.
  • Skilled nursing care – long‑term care for residents who require assistance with personal and medical needs, along with rehabilitative therapies, wound care or recovery after procedures.
  • Long‑Term Care – ongoing care for residents who require assistance with personal and medical needs.
Position Summary

The Registered Dietitian (RD) reports to the Department Director and is responsible for ensuring clinical expertise for all food services, providing excellent customer service and patient satisfaction, and managing food service‑related activities including patient care, retail, cafeteria, catering, quality improvement, sanitation, infection control and all hospital‑related activities.

The RD provides comprehensive nutrition care and management for residents in long‑term care and skilled nursing facilities, including those in the subacute/short‑term rehabilitation unit, ensuring individualized nutrition plans that promote optimal health and quality of life.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and oversee department strategic priorities and operational policies, focusing on best practices in food quality, production efficiency, sanitation, food cost controls, and presentation.
  • Collaborate with administrative leadership to define and communicate the strategic and operational plan for the department, continuously evaluating progress.
  • Apply clinical nutrition knowledge to policy development and decision making for various levels of acute care patients.
  • Oversee department performance improvement initiatives in preparation for The Joint Commission, health department inspections, and other regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct nutritional assessments per policy and procedures and standards of practice.
  • Attend healthcare team meetings regularly.
  • Educate patients on long‑term nutritional care through individual discussions, group classes, and community speaking engagements, and document patient understanding.
  • Write and coordinate modified diets, approve menus, and monitor and approve meal substitutions as needed.
  • Serve as an educational resource for foodservice, nursing and medical personnel.
Qualifications
  • Knowledge of foods, nutrition, food preparation, production, supervisory and instructional techniques.
  • One year of experience in dietetics (new graduates may be considered if staffing allows).
  • Supervisory experience preferred.
  • Master’s Degree.
  • Registered Dietitian (RD) – Commission on Dietetic Registration.
  • ServSafe Certification (within 14 days of hire).

$37.07 – $57.46 hourly. Individual wages are determined based upon a number of factors including, but not limited to, an individual’s qualifications and experience.
