Job summary

Children's Habilitation Center in Harvey, IL is seeking a Registered Nurse (Charge Nurse) to direct delivery of care for residents and work with the nursing team to ensure compliance with IDPH regulations.

The role requires an IL RN license, BLS certification, and a willingness to mentor staff while overseeing admissions, care planning, and documentation. This on-site position includes weekend rotations and holiday coverage in a compassionate, patient-centered facility.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in nursing required; bachelor's degree preferred.
• Active IL State Registered Nursing license.
• Basic Life Support certification (American Heart).
• Ability to pass a criminal background check and drug testing.
• Experience with diverse socioeconomic populations is a plus.
• Ability to lift, push, pull, or carry at least 50 lbs.

Responsibilities

• Supervises shift nurses and team assistants while monitoring their professional needs.
• Coordinates daily administrative duties including nursing assignments, breaks/lunches, and resident care.
• Oversee resident admissions, transfers, and discharges.
• Record and maintain accurate shift reports.
• Mentor and train new staff, providing support and guidance to all staff members.
• Monitor medical charts and provide compassionate care and assistance to residents, visitors, and families.
• Develop/update individual care plans to meet resident needs and achieve treatment goals.
• Perform routine rounding to assess resident condition every 2 hours or as needed.
• Inform physicians/Nurse Practitioners of any changes in the patient's progress, condition, or medicinal needs.

Purpose: The Registered Nurse (Charge Nurse) will direct delivery of care to Children's Habilitation Center (CHC) residents while utilizing the nursing process in collaboration with other members of the healthcare team in compliance with CHC policies, procedures and applicable Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) regulations.

Responsibilities:

• Supervises shift nurses and team assistants while monitoring their professional needs
• Coordinates daily administrative duties including nursing assignments, breaks/lunches, and resident care
• Oversee resident admissions, transfers, and discharges
• Record and maintain accurate shift reports
• Mentor and train new staff, providing support and guidance to all staff members
• Monitor medical charts and provide compassionate care and assistance to residents, visitors, and families
• Develop/update individual care plans to meet resident needs and achieve treatment goals
• Perform routine rounding to assess resident condition every 2 hours or as needed
• Identify issues or emergencies, respond calmly and efficiently, and assess the resident, if the resident's status has changed.
• Inform physicians/Nurse Practitioners of any changes in the patient's progress, condition, or medicinal needs

Schedule & Attendance

• Must be available to work a minimum of three (3) shifts within a one-week posted schedule.
• Must work a weekend rotation that will be included as (2) days towards the (3) shift requirement.
• If the In-House Registry worker does not work; A minimum of three (3) shifts within a one-week posted schedule, this may be considered a voluntary resignation.
• I agree to work holiday shifts based on operational needs. All holiday trades should be communicated and approved by the Director of Nursing or his/her designee. If an employee-partner calls off on holiday, the employee-partner will be required to work another holiday to be determined by the Director of Nursing.
