Job summary

New Fairfield Public Schools is seeking a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) as a Long Term Substitute at New Fairfield Elementary in New Fairfield, Connecticut. The role supports students’ behavioral, social, and educational growth under BCBA supervision, implementing BIPs, collecting data, and promoting communication and self-regulation.

Responsibilities include data collection, ABA-based interventions, collaboration with teachers and families, and maintaining student progress records.

Qualifications

  • Completion of the 40-hour RBT training course and required supervised fieldwork hours under a BCBA.
  • Successful completion of the RBT Competency Assessment and RBT Examination.
  • Commitment to ongoing annual recertification and supervision requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Implement Behavior Intervention Plans with fidelity under the supervision of a BCBA.
  • Collect, record, and report behavioral data accurately and efficiently.
  • Carries out instructional and behavioral activities as designed by a certified teacher or BCBA, including ABA-based interventions and DTI sessions.
  • Collects, records, and maintains accurate data on student performance, including behavior tracking, skill acquisition, and IEP goal progress.
  • Assist in developing and generalizing student skill acquisition and behavior reduction programs.
  • Maintain and update student progress records and communicate with the educational team regarding behavioral and instructional progress.
  • Perform physical management and crisis intervention in accordance with safety protocols and training, only when necessary and appropriate.
  • Uphold ethical and professional standards in accordance with the BACB RBT Ethics Code.
  • Collaborate with teachers and pupil services staff to support student academic and behavioral needs.
  • Maintain confidentiality and demonstrate professional communication with caregivers, colleagues, and supervisors.
  • Participate in team meetings, professional learning, and ongoing supervision to maintain active RBT certification.
  • May be asked to assist in training new or existing staff members in behavior-analytic strategies.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervising BCBA or Pupil Services Department Supervisor.

Job Description

The Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) plays a key role in supporting students’ behavioral, social, and educational growth under the supervision of a Board-Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) or other qualified professional. This position involves implementing individualized Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs), collecting and analyzing behavioral data, and fostering the development of communication, independence, and self-regulation skills. The RBT works collaboratively with teachers, pupil services staff, and families to promote positive behavior, inclusion, and meaningful student progress.
