Job summary

The North Plainfield Borough School District is seeking a Registered Behavior Technician for the 2025-2026 school year. This individual will implement Applied Behavior Analysis principles under supervision, contributing to an effective learning environment.

Job description

Registered Behavior Technician

The North Plainfield School District, a culturally diverse school community in Somerset County serving 3,700 students Pre‑K through grade 12, seeks a dynamic, enthusiastic and innovative professional for the position of Registered Behavior Technician for the 2025-2026 school year.

Qualifications
  1. High school diploma; college level coursework in education or related field*
  2. Substitute Teacher credential issued by the NJ Department of Education preferred
  3. RBT Certification required.
  4. Prior work experience with students with Autism Spectrum Disorders and other related developmental disabilities in a public or private school setting is preferred.
  5. Ability to communicate effectively with students and school staff using tact, discretion, and clarity.
  6. Knowledge of diverse student needs
  7. Possess the desire to work with and understand children with learning and behavioral challenges.
  8. Good oral and written communication skills
  9. Willingness and ability to perform necessary tasks effectively with maturity and using good judgment.
  10. Physical Requirements: sitting, standing, lifting and carrying, reaching, squatting and kneeling, as appropriate to meet the physical demands of the educational setting.
  11. *In programs funded with federal Title I funds, or in district-wide Title 1 districts, all paraprofessionals (teaching assistants) hired after January 8, 2002 must complete at least two years of college, obtain an associate's degree or higher, or pass an evaluation such as the ParaPro Exam to demonstrate the knowledge and ability to assist in teaching reading, writing, and math. High school diploma or equivalent; Associate's degree or certification in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field preferred.
Job Goal

The Registered Behavior Technician is an instructional paraprofessional who contributes to a safe and effective learning environment by implementing evidence-based Applied Behavior Analysis principles in classrooms under the close and ongoing supervision of a Board-Certified Behavior Analyst.

Performance Responsibilities
  1. Deliver direct instruction to teach communication, social and daily living skills to students in individual and group settings at school and in the local community.
  2. Implement classroom-based interventions to support the positive transition of new students and/or students experiencing challenging and problematic behaviors.
  3. Accurately collect, record and graph a variety of observable data for purposes of monitoring student progress and evaluating the efficacy of behavioral interventions.
  4. Assist Board Certified Behavior Analysts with the development and implementation of Functional Behavior Assessments and Behavior Intervention Plans.
  5. Participate in relevant professional development opportunities to remain informed of current practices in Applied Behavior Analysis and other related courses of study.
  6. Perform all other related duties and responsibilities outlined in the North Plainfield Board-approved job description for Instructional Paraprofessional as assigned by the Principal or Supervisor.
  7. Other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or designee

Salary range: $26.67–$32.00 per hour, commensurate with experience.
