Job summary

Thrive Pet Healthcare is seeking a Regional Veterinary Technician Trainer to support veterinary teams across our Hill Country network. You’ll partner with hospital leaders and the National Technician Director to identify training needs, deliver hands‑on coaching, and advance standards of clinical excellence.

Qualifications

  • 4–6 years of clinical experience as a credentialed veterinary technician.
  • Eligible to transfer credentials to Texas (CVT/LVT/RVT/LVMT).
  • 2+ years in training, leadership, or management roles.

Responsibilities

  • Identify skill gaps and develop regional training plans.
  • Provide tools, training, and feedback for onboarding and upskilling.
  • Deliver coaching and mentorship to Veterinary Technicians, Assistants, trainers, and technician leaders across the region.
  • Mentor and support hospital technician leaders and trainers on resources and adult learning practices.
  • Support progression through Thrive's clinical skills and knowledge pathways and set development goals.
  • Promote a culture of learning, psychological safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Align training initiatives with Thrive standards and regional priorities.
  • Provide staffing and workflow recommendations to leadership.
  • Track training activities and outcomes and report to regional leadership.
  • Contribute to Thrive’s Technician Advisory Council meetings and projects.
  • Maintain expertise in veterinary medicine and coaching best practices.

Regional Veterinary Technician Trainer – San Antonio, TX

Thrive Pet Healthcare is looking for a Regional Veterinary Technician Trainer to support veterinary teams across our hospital network in the Hill Country Region. This regional role partners with hospital leaders and the National Technician Director to identify development needs, deliver hands‑on training and mentorship, and advance consistent standards of medical excellence. Frequent travel between hospitals in San Antonio, New Braunfels, Canyon Lake, and Austin—up to 80% based on business needs is required. The role supports emergency/specialty and general practice hospitals.

About You

You’re an experienced credentialed veterinary technician with a passion for clinical excellence, teaching, and helping others grow. You build trust with teams, adapt your coaching style to different learning needs, and bring a practical, solutions-oriented approach to training and development. You’re excited to share your expertise, mentor others, and help veterinary teams deliver exceptional patient care.

What You’ll Do
  • Partner with the National Technician Director and regional hospital leadership to identify skill gaps, training needs, and development priorities, and coordinate regional hospital support plans.
  • Provide local leaders with tools, training, and feedback to support competency assessments and the development of targeted onboarding, training, and upskilling plans aligned with organizational goals and clinical excellence.
  • Deliver coaching, mentorship, and professional development support to Veterinary Technicians, Assistants, trainers, and technician leaders across the region.
  • Mentor and provide support to hospital technician leaders and trainers on available resources and best adult learning and coaching practices.
  • Support team member progression through Thrive's clinical skills and knowledge leveling pathway and assist in establishing individual growth and development goals.
  • Promote a culture of learning, psychological safety, accountability, and continuous improvement that encourages professional growth and engagement.
  • Ensure training initiatives, educational resources, and development programs align with Thrive standards, medical protocols, and regional priorities.
  • Provide recommendations to hospital leadership regarding staffing utilization, workflow optimization, operational efficiency, and team development opportunities.
  • Monitor, document, and communicate training activities, outcomes, skill gaps, successes, and emerging challenges to hospital and regional leadership.
  • Contribute to Thrive’s Technician Advisory Council meetings, initiatives, and projects.
  • Maintain expertise in veterinary medicine, adult learning principles, coaching methodologies, and industry best practices to support consistent excellence across Thrive hospitals.
  • Serve as a clinical and operational resource by modeling best practices in patient care, safety, communication, and team effectiveness.
Your Experience & Skills
  • Minimum of 4-6 years of clinical experience as a credentialed veterinary technician. Must be eligible and able to transfer credentials to Texas. (CVT, LVT, RVT or LVMT)
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in training, leadership, or management roles.
  • Associate’s degree required; bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Must possess exceptional veterinary technician skills and knowledge base.
  • Current or previous proven contributor of a well-functioning, highly effective team.
  • Demonstrates expertise in competency-based training in a dynamic environment.
  • Demonstrates experience in servant leadership, mentoring, coaching, and conflict resolution.
  • Possess excellent communication skills and a high degree of Emotional Intelligence (EI).
  • Solution oriented.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to engage stakeholders at all levels.
  • Effective leadership skills with the ability to inspire and guide teams.
  • Passion for veterinary medicine and commitment to improving quality of medicine and patient care.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements

This position requires frequent driving and travel between emergency and specialty hospitals and general practice hospitals in San Antonio, New Braunfels, Canyon Lake, and Austin, up to 80% based on business needs. The role regularly involves sitting, standing, walking, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, listening, and close visual acuity. It also includes occasional stooping, kneeling, crouching, climbing, or balancing. The position frequently requires lifting up to 25 pounds and may occasionally require lifting up to 50 pounds.
