About the Role

Our client, a provincial sports council in the Northern Cape , is seeking a motivated and experienced Regional Sports Development Officer to be based in or serve the Upington area. This role is responsible for promoting and developing sports participation across the region, working with local government, schools, clubs, and community organizations. The Officer will play a key role in implementing sports development strategies, organizing events, identifying talent, and securing funding to enhance sporting opportunities. The ideal candidate possesses a strong understanding of sports development frameworks, excellent project management skills, and a passion for fostering grassroots sports in the Northern Cape .

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement regional sports development plans and initiatives in alignment with provincial goals.
• Facilitate and coordinate sports programs and events for various age groups and disciplines within the region.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including local authorities, schools, sports clubs, and community leaders.
• Identify and nurture emerging sporting talent through talent identification programs and pathways.
• Assist local clubs and organizations in capacity building, governance, and resource mobilization.
• Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of sports development programs, reporting on outcomes and impact.
• Manage the allocated budget for regional sports development activities efficiently and transparently.
• Promote sports participation and healthy lifestyles across the region through various outreach activities.
• Seek and secure funding opportunities through grants and sponsorships to support regional sports initiatives.
• Represent the provincial sports council at regional meetings and events.

Requirements

• A minimum of 4 years of experience in sports development, project management, or community sport coordination.
• Proven ability to develop and implement strategic plans for sports development.
• Strong understanding of grassroots sports structures and challenges in South Africa.
• Excellent project management, organizational, and time management skills.
• Demonstrated experience in stakeholder engagement and relationship management.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with presentation capabilities.
• Experience in budget management and financial reporting.
• A relevant tertiary qualification in Sports Management, Development Studies, or a related field.
• A valid driver's license and willingness to travel extensively within the Upington region and surrounding areas.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
