Job summary

UFP Industries in Florida seeks an internal CI consultant to drive Lean manufacturing, productivity improvements, and capital project installations through process design and equipment specifications. You will mentor staff, lead safety and ergonomic improvements, conduct value stream mapping, 5S, setup reduction, and TPM initiatives, and coordinate CI training across plants.

Requires a bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field, strong Lean knowledge, and ability to travel to sites.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree in engineering or related discipline or equivalent
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing operations
  • Lean principles including 5S, Kanban, standardized work, process flow, value stream mapping, setup reduction and Visual Factory
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in related areas
  • Experience and knowledge of UFP’s organization, culture, and product lines
  • Proficiency in English (reading, writing, speaking)
  • Ability to interact with all organizational levels and the public
  • Ability to apply business math to manufacturing processes, organize and prioritize work
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and mechanical aptitude
  • Ability to manage multiple activities/projects, meet deadlines, and prepare plans and budgets
  • Willingness to travel in the work environment
  • Proficiency in MS Office and AutoCAD

Responsibilities

  • Lead capital project installations and follow up as required
  • Identify productivity and safety improvements
  • Troubleshoot plant productivity issues
  • Maintain knowledge of machinery/equipment and assist with specifications
  • Procure approved M&E as assigned
  • Conduct machinery safety and guarding audits
  • Safety start-up checklists for new installations
  • Evaluate processes using waste walks, value stream mapping, 5S, setup reduction, TPM
  • Coordinate CI training and project activities across sites
  • Share successes and key learnings from CI initiatives
  • Teach and mentor employees on CI and Lean principles
  • Advise plants on idle assets availability and potential use
  • Review activities to ensure alignment with goals
  • Ensure compliance with company policies in manufacturing
  • Prepare reports as required
  • Perform other duties as required

Job Summary

Functions as an internal consultant with regard to CI principles, the implementation of productivity
increases, capital project installation, safety and ergonomic improvements, through process design,
layout and machinery specifications.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities
  • Manages all aspects of the installation of capital projects and follows up as required.

  • Identifies and researches opportunities for productivity and safety related improvements.

  • Troubleshoots plants productivity issues as required.

  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of related machinery and equipment for possible operationalapplications and assist plants in machinery/equipment specification.

  • Procures approved and specified M & E as assigned.

  • Conducts machinery safety and guarding audits as required.

  • Conducts safety start-up checklists for new installations.

  • Evaluates plant manufacturing processes utilizing tools such as waste walks, value streammapping, 5S, setup reduction, TPM to help identify areas of waste and opportunities forimprovement.

  • Works with site personnel to help coordinate the CI training and project activities.

  • Acts as a conduit for sharing of successes, key learning’s, and other CI information.

  • Teaches, coaches, mentors all levels of employees on CI and Lean manufacturing principles.

  • Advises plants regarding availability and potential application of idle assets.

  • Reviews activities and goals periodically to insure contribution to overall goals and objectives.

  • Monitors assigned plants compliance to Company policies and procedures as they relate to the

  • Manufacturing environment.

  • Prepares various reports as required.

  • Performs other duties as required.

Qualifications
  • Preferred bachelor degree in an engineering relating discipline or equivalent

  • Working knowledge of manufacturing operations

  • Demonstrated working knowledge on Lean principles including: 5S, Kanban, standardized work,process flow, value stream mapping, setup reduction and Visual Factory

  • Preferred 3 to 5 years of experience in related areas

  • Preferred experience and knowledge on UFP’s organization, culture, and product lines

  • Proficiency in the use of the English language in reading, writing and speaking

  • Ability to successfully interact with all organizational levels and the public

  • Ability to apply business math to manufacturing processes, organize, and prioritize work

  • Requires great analytical, problem solving and mechanical skills/aptitude

  • Ability to manage several activities/projects at once, to organize and prioritize work, to meetdeadlines, to prepare plans, goals and budgets.

  • Ability to be mobile in the work environment, travel as required.

  • Ability to use a computer and proficiency of the use of MS Office and other business and engineerrelated software (AutoCAD)

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds

  • Demonstrated skill in leading project and other people

  • Demonstrated skill in improving processes
