Regional Water/Wastewater Practice Leader

Virginia Beach, VA | Newport News, VA | Richmond, VA | Raleigh, NC

An established, nationally recognized consulting engineering firm is seeking an experienced Regional Water/Wastewater Practice Leader to lead and continue growing its successful operations throughout Virginia and North Carolina.

This is an outstanding opportunity for a senior consulting engineer who enjoys balancing client development, strategic leadership, technical oversight, and mentoring a high-performing team. Unlike many leadership opportunities, this position comes with an existing staff, strong client relationships, and an active backlog of work already in place.

Position Overview

As the Regional Practice Leader, you will provide leadership to an established multidisciplinary water and wastewater team supporting municipal and utility clients throughout Virginia and North Carolina.

You'll work closely with firm leadership to strengthen regional collaboration, continue delivering outstanding client service, expand existing client relationships, and pursue strategic growth opportunities across the region.

This is a highly visible leadership position that combines business development, project oversight, staff leadership, and strategic planning.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Lead and mentor an established regional team of engineers and project managers.
  • Provide strategic direction for continued growth throughout Virginia and North Carolina.
  • Build and strengthen relationships with municipal utilities, local governments, and public-sector clients.
  • Develop new business while expanding existing client partnerships.
  • Provide executive-level oversight of planning, design, and construction services.
  • Support project managers with scope, schedule, budget, staffing, quality control, and project delivery.
  • Collaborate with leadership on forecasting, staffing, utilization, backlog management, and long-term business planning.
  • Foster a culture centered around collaboration, accountability, technical excellence, and exceptional client service.
Areas of Technical Focus

  • Water distribution systems
  • Wastewater collection systems
  • Pump stations
  • Lift stations
  • Force mains
  • Utility infrastructure
  • Utility master planning
  • Asset management
  • Rehabilitation and capital improvement programs
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
  • Virginia and/or North Carolina licensure preferred.
  • Approximately 20+ years of consulting engineering experience.
  • Demonstrated success developing municipal and utility clients.
  • Proven ability to lead teams while growing business.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Experience managing multidisciplinary infrastructure projects.
