Job summary

NRCM is seeking a Regional Outreach Coordinator in Franklin County, ME, to build trusted relationships, gather local perspectives, and drive environmental priorities across the region. The role requires hybrid work with travel and evening/weekend events, reporting to the Senior Director of Outreach & Campaigns.

Position Details:

Location: Franklin County, Maine – hybrid (some office, remote, and travel requirements)

Classification: Full-time, Regular, Exempt

Schedule: 40 hours/week; Monday – Friday, flexibility provided due to expected attendance at evening and weekends events.

Salary: Band B – $54,814 - 63,637

Benefits: Benefit eligible, includes 100% employer paid health insurance, dental, retirement, generous leave time, and professional development.

About the role

As Regional Outreach Coordinator, you will be NRCM’s primary relationship-builder in Franklin County and the surrounding region. You’ll listen to local perspectives, identify common ground, bring people together, and create opportunities for residents to become involved in issues that affect their communities.

Reporting to the Senior Director of Outreach & Campaigns, you’ll collaborate with colleagues across NRCM to connect statewide environmental priorities with the interests, experiences, and leadership of people in rural Maine.

What you will do:

• Build lasting, trust-based relationships with residents, organizations, businesses, community leaders, elected officials, and NRCM supporters.
• Learn the region’s political and community landscape and identify opportunities to build long-term support for environmental protection and climate solutions.
• Find common ground around issues such as clean water, fisheries restoration, wildlife habitat, land conservation, outdoor recreation, climate change, and community resilience.
• Grow and engage a network of NRCM supporters, activists, and members through events, presentations, individual conversations, and online outreach.
• Develop organizing and mobilization strategies that build public support for NRCM priorities and encourage communication with legislators and other elected officials.
• Organize and participate in community events, meetings, and partnerships that strengthen NRCM’s presence in the region.
• Represent NRCM in regional conversations in a manner consistent with the organization’s priorities and positions.
• Collaborate with NRCM’s Communications team on regional media outreach and content for the organization’s website, blog, and social media channels.
• Bring regional knowledge and community perspectives into NRCM’s outreach strategies and organizational planning.
• Track relationships, activities, outcomes, and emerging opportunities using NRCM’s databases and reporting systems.

What you will bring:

• The ability to live and work in or near Franklin County and build a strong presence throughout the region.
• Experience living or working in rural communities—preferably in Maine—or a demonstrated ability to earn trust and develop relationships in rural areas.
• Experience in community organizing, outreach, public engagement, or a related field.
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to listen carefully, identify shared interests, and connect with people who bring different experiences and perspectives.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including persuasive writing, presentations, and public speaking.
• The ability to work independently in a remote setting while collaborating effectively, managing competing priorities, and meeting deadlines.
• A commitment to protecting Maine’s environment and natural resources.

This position requires frequent regional travel, periodic travel to NRCM’s Augusta office and other locations, and occasional evening, weekend, and overnight work.
