Job description

The Regional Medical Director is responsible for setting the highest standard of care and working with veterinarian teams to achieve that standard. This position collaborates with the Regional Operations Director to develop teams, promote best practices, and lead hospitals toward excellence in client and patient care. The territory for this role includes the state of Pennsylvania (Pittsburgh) and parts of Ohio.

Team

• Develop strong relationships with Regional Operations Directors, veterinary teams, and hospital managers to enhance teamwork and best practices.
• Work with doctors to create development plans and conduct annual reviews, supporting them through evaluations and coaching.
• Encourage hospital doctors to develop and mentor paraprofessional staff for high competency and efficiency.
• Recruit and onboard veterinarians to ensure fully staffed hospitals.
• Develop veterinary leaders within each hospital.

Medical Standards

• Collaborate with hospital teams to evaluate skills in medical proficiency, surgical skills, client communication, charting, and service charging.
• Conduct quarterly meetings with DVMs to review individual performance.
• Participate in monthly meetings to discuss best practices and hospital workflows.
• Assist in decision-making regarding medicines and hospital policies.
• Ensure doctors adhere to SVP standards of patient care.
• Attend 30-40 hours of continuing education annually.

Operations

• Supervise intern and extern programs.
• Represent SVP at veterinary colleges.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations.
• Collaborate on medical equipment and capital expenses.
• Assist in resolving scheduling conflicts.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree from an accredited university.
• Valid licensure to practice.
• Experience managing multiple veterinary hospital sites.
• Hospital ownership or leadership experience.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills.
• Residence in Pennsylvania with easy access to Pittsburgh or Cleveland, Ohio.
