Job description

The Regional Manager is the senior field leader responsible for the overall performance, growth, profitability, operational excellence, and leadership effectiveness of an assigned portfolio of studios. The Regional Manager leads and develops General Managers, establishes clear performance expectations, monitors business results, and ensures consistent execution of company standards and initiatives across the region.

This role is accountable for regional revenue growth, membership growth, retention, sales conversion, profitability, staffing effectiveness, member experience, and operational compliance. The Regional Manager uses a consistent operating cadence—including weekly performance reviews, General Manager coaching, studio visits, regional reporting, and action tracking—to identify risks, strengthen execution, and improve results.

The Regional Manager maintains a regular in-studio presence but leads primarily through General Managers. During leadership vacancies, acquisitions, transitions, or other business-critical circumstances, the Regional Manager may provide temporary hands-on operational coverage to maintain business continuity.

Success requires strong business acumen, disciplined performance management, effective leadership development, operational expertise, and the ability to build accountable, high-performing teams across multiple locations.

Regional Business Performance and Growth

Own regional performance against established net revenue, profitability, same-store sales, membership, conversion, retention, retail, private training, and other business goals.

Translate company objectives into studio-specific monthly and quarterly performance expectations.

Review results against budget, forecast, prior year, and company targets; identify trends, opportunities, and risks affecting regional performance.

Ensure every underperforming studio has a documented action plan with a responsible owner, completion date, expected result, and follow-up process.

Partner with studio leaders to develop and execute business plans that support sustainable growth and profitability.

Support acquisitions, integrations, presales, new studio openings, and studio transitions as assigned.

Sales and Membership Leadership

Establish consistent sales-management practices across the region and hold General Managers accountable for execution.

Monitor lead activity, introductory sessions, conversion, new memberships, referrals, drafts, cancellations, and other sales-performance indicators.

Coach General Managers on leading sales teams, diagnosing performance gaps, and implementing corrective action.

Ensure studios consistently execute company sales processes, lead follow-up expectations, community outreach, and approved promotional strategies.

Identify opportunities to grow ancillary revenue, including retail, private training, teacher training, and other approved offerings.

Member Experience and Retention

Champion a consistent, welcoming, and service-oriented member experience across all assigned studios.

Monitor attrition, cancellations, freezes, refunds, credits, member feedback, and at-risk-member activity.

Coach General Managers on resolving escalated member concerns promptly, professionally, and consistently.

Ensure studios execute member-retention, referral, event, workshop, and community-building activities.

Identify recurring member-experience concerns and ensure appropriate corrective action is implemented.

General Manager Leadership and Talent Development

Recruit, select, onboard, coach, develop, evaluate, and retain effective General Managers and other designated studio leaders.

Set clear expectations and hold General Managers accountable for studio performance, team leadership, sales execution, member experience, and operating standards.

Conduct structured weekly one-on-one meetings with each General Manager, including regular in-person meetings at studio locations.

Ensure General Managers effectively coach, manage, schedule, and develop their studio employees.

Identify leadership-pipeline needs, maintain succession plans, and create development opportunities for high-potential employees.

Partner with Human Resources on employee relations, performance management, disciplinary action, succession planning, and termination decisions.

Operating Cadence and Performance Reporting

Lead the established regional operating cadence, including General Manager one-on-ones, regional General Manager meetings, monthly regional reviews, and quarterly field-management meetings.

Prepare and submit a weekly market plan identifying planned studio visits, timing, purpose, and completion of prior-week commitments.

Maintain an accurate regional open-issues and action tracker with clear owners, deadlines, status updates, and resolution steps.

Review LASERR and other approved business reports according to the established weekly and monthly cadence.

Prepare concise regional performance updates identifying studios on pace, studios off pace, contributing factors, corrective actions, and matters requiring escalation.

Participate prepared in meetings with the Vice President of Field Operations, RM group meetings, field calls, and other required leadership forums.

Ensure recurring performance meetings begin with results and include follow-through on prior commitments.

Studio Operations and Brand Standards

Maintain purposeful, regular in-person presence throughout the assigned region to evaluate leadership effectiveness, member experience, operational execution, and brand consistency.

Ensure studios comply with company policies, procedures, operational standards, and applicable legal and regulatory requirements.

Monitor studio cleanliness, equipment condition, retail presentation, signage, inventory, facility maintenance, and administrative processes.

Monitor staffing levels, schedules, timekeeping, payroll practices, and labor utilization; ensure exceptions are addressed promptly.

Ensure identified operational concerns have documented owners, deadlines, and follow-up until resolved.

Cross-Functional Partnership

Partner with Instructor Management to support class-schedule optimization, utilization, instructor performance, and programming needs.

Collaborate with Marketing on regional promotions, community partnerships, events, lead generation, and local market execution.

Partner with Human Resources on staffing, employee relations, compliance, talent development, and organizational initiatives.

Partner with Finance and senior leadership on budgets, forecasts, labor, expenses, and financial-performance improvement.

Escalate material concerns promptly with relevant facts, business impact, actions taken, responsible owners, and recommended solutions.

Studio Coverage and Business Continuity

Maintain an accurate regional staffing plan and anticipate leadership vacancies or coverage risks before they materially affect operations.

Provide temporary hands-on leadership during General Manager vacancies, acquisitions, openings, transitions, or other business-critical situations.

When serving as acting General Manager, maintain a documented staffing and transition plan designed to restore permanent studio leadership.

Ensure member experience, employee support, and operating performance remain stable during leadership transitions.

Lead through General Managers while maintaining sufficient in-studio presence to assess performance, leadership effectiveness, member experience, and operational standards.

Use studio visits purposefully, with a defined business objective and documented follow-up.

Balance immediate studio support with the broader responsibility to analyze and improve regional performance.

Lead by example through professionalism, integrity, accountability, responsiveness, and service.

Identify and address issues before they materially affect employees, members, compliance, or business performance.

Maintain visibility across both high-performing and underperforming studios.

Follow through on commitments until they are completed or formally closed.

Adapt effectively to changing business needs, growth, acquisitions, and organizational priorities.

Strong business acumen and ability to analyze budgets, forecasts, labor, profitability, and performance metrics.

Strong communication, coaching, organizational, conflict-resolution, and problem-solving skills.

Ability to organize multiple priorities, maintain consistent follow-through, and make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office and business reporting systems.

Ability to travel regularly throughout the assigned region.

Preferred

Experience in boutique fitness, health and wellness, or another membership-based business.

Physical, Travel, and Schedule Requirements

This is a field-based, in-person leadership role requiring regular presence throughout the assigned market; it is not designed as a primarily remote position.

Ability to work a flexible schedule, including occasional evenings and weekends, as business needs require.

Frequent travel between assigned studios and occasional travel outside the region for meetings, training, openings, or integrations.

Regularly required to stand, walk, sit, reach, bend, and use standard office equipment in a fitness-studio environment.

Ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally.
