Job summary

Virginia Transportation seeks a Regional Manager to lead the operational performance of multiple terminals and their teams, ensuring safety, service levels, and profitability across the region. This onsite role focuses on driving KPI alignment and fostering continuous improvement.

You will oversee Terminal Managers and Driver Managers, implement strategic initiatives, and use data-driven insights to optimize performance and the driver experience. A strong leadership background is essential.

Qualifications

  • Associate or Technical Degree in Logistics, Transportation, Business or related field preferred.
  • Experience in logistics and dispatch, preferably within auto hauling distribution.
  • Knowledge of DOT compliance, laws, rules, regulations and safety.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and transportation software applications.
  • Strong written and verbal communication with team leadership skills.

Responsibilities

What will the Regional Manager do?

The Regional Manager is responsible for leading the operational performance of multiple terminals and their teams, including Terminal Managers and Driver Managers. This role ensures consistent execution of company standards, safety, service levels, and profitability across the region. The Regional Manager collaborates with leadership to implement strategic initiatives and uses data-driven insights to optimize performance, streamline processes, and enhance the driver experience.

Through leadership, accountability, and cross-functional coordination, the Regional Manager plays a critical role in supporting driver-focused operations and delivering high-performance outcomes across multiple sites.

What is the Regional Manager responsible for?
    • Provide direct oversight and leadership to Terminal Managers and Driver Managers across a defined geographic region
    • Drive alignment with operational KPIs including safety, productivity, utilization, and financial performance
    • Support and retain high-performing teams by fostering engagement, addressing concerns proactively, and supporting individual development and recognition efforts
    • Identify performance gaps across terminals and create action plans for improvement
    • Oversee regional scheduling, equipment allocation, and terminal-level dispatch consistency
    • Ensure compliance with DOT regulations, company policies, and safety programs
    • Monitor driver engagement and collaborate with local leaders to enhance driver retention and performance
    • Lead weekly and monthly performance reviews with direct reports; provide actionable coaching and feedback
    • Support the rollout of strategic initiatives including system rollouts, process improvements, and growth planning
    • Conduct on-site terminal visits, operational audits, and team check-ins on a regular cadence
    • Escalate and resolve regional service disruptions, staffing gaps, or high-risk safety concerns
    • Promote a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and cross-terminal collaboration
    • Perform other related duties as assigned
Supervisory Responsibilities:

This job has supervisory responsibilities for Auto Haulers. This includes, but is not limited to:

  1. Responsibility for managing performance and relevant performance feedback, providing motivation and encouragement
  2. Interpreting policy and ensuring policy compliance to include execution of progressive discipline for policy violations.
  3. Scheduling and managing time and attendance
  4. Managing Auto Hauler complaints and monitoring satisfaction levels
  5. Monitoring Auto Hauler production and handling inquiriesrelativeto pay and incentive programs
  6. May be required to perform other supervisory duties.
What knowledge, skills and abilities are required for the Regional Manager role?
  1. Associate or Technical Degree in Logistics, Transportation, Business or related field preferred
  2. Experience inlogisticsand dispatch, preferably within auto hauling distribution.
  3. Demonstrated experience leading, directing, communicating change and developing a team strongly desired.
  4. Knowledge of transportation enterprise software applications.
  5. Working knowledge of tractor and trailer maintenance.
  6. Solid written and oral skills with a strong ability to work with others
  7. Aptitude to gain further competency in transportation analysis tools
  8. Knowledge of DOT compliance, laws, rules,regulationsand safety.
  9. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  10. Knowledge of TMW andPeopleNeta plus.
  11. Ability tomaintaina high levelof accuracy and completion in preparing and entering information.
  12. Highly organized, proficient in prioritization, attention to detail andpossessinga high levelof accuracy.
  13. Ability to provide positive reinforcement andpossessa positive attitude.
  14. Mustpossessability to providetimelyfollow up to drivers and management.
  15. Comfortable working in a high-stress environment and ability to stay calm under pressure.
  16. Strong interpersonal skills to develop andmaintainpositive relationships with dispatch team and auto haulers.
  17. Strong communicationskills (oral, written and listening) with motivational ability.
  18. Work occasionally requires a high level of mental effort and strain when performing essential duties. Must be able to perform the essential duties of the position with time constraints, interruptions and stressed dispatchers and drivers.
  19. Work may require more than40 hoursper week.
