The North Carolina Department of Adult Corrections (NCDAC) is the largest state agency and is responsible for the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced after conviction for violating North Carolina laws. The NCDAC / Support Services / Division of Engineering, Construction, and Maintenance (DECM) is recruiting for an energized and collaborative Regional Maintenance Technician I to be a part of the Piedmont Regional Maintenance Team. This position reports to the Piedmont Regional Maintenance Yard in Asheboro, NC and will learn the skills to perform general preventative maintenance and like-in-kind Force Account system replacements.
The Regional Maintenance Technician I position is a basic level position that does not require any previous experience in the maintenance or construction trades. The only requirements to be successful are to have a positive attitude and an eagerness to learn. As a Regional Maintenance Technician I, you will be taught the skills and gain useful experience in the construction, installation, maintenance, and repair of general plumbing, HVAC, and/or electrical systems, equipment, and machinery.
This position requires daily commuting to DECM-Piedmont Regional Maintenance Yard in Asheboro, NC. This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefit. The work schedule is Monday – Friday and may require some weekend work and overnight travel to meet the demands of the organization.
As of January 1, 2025, there are new salary increase adjustments to the State’s pay plan which were approved by the State Human Resources Commission. Effective January 1, 2025, the new salary range will be $29,604.00 - $51,807.00. Prior applicants will remain under consideration and do not need to reapply.

The salary grade for this position is NC03. State employees are encouraged to apply for positions of interest even if the salary grade is the same as, or lower than, their current position. If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity. Based upon these factors, a pay increase MAY result.
High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma or a sufficient year-for-year combination of education and experience associated with a variety of mechanical or building trades; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Necessary Special Qualification may require current certification by the Environmental Protection Agency as a Type I, II, III or Universal technician as required by Title 40, Code of Federal Regulations Part 82, Subpart F.
