POSITION SUMMARY:
The Regional Maintenance Manager is responsible for overseeing the maintenance and repair of all vehicles and equipment within a designated region. This includes managing the fleet of trucks and trailers, ensuring they are regularly serviced, inspected, and compliant with industry standards and regulations. The role involves managing a team of technicians, shop operations, scheduling maintenance repairs, and ensuring that all vehicles are safe and operational for the company's transportation needs.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS FOR THIS POSITION:
- Oversee the maintenance and repair of the company’s fleet of trucks and trailers
- Manage shop parts catalog to ensure inventory is current and accurate
- Manages inventory min/max settings to keep inventory value low while keeping out of stock requests to a minimum
- Monitor the condition of fleet vehicles and ensure they are compliant with all safety and regulatory standards (e.g., DOT, EPA).
- Coordinate emergency repairs and unplanned maintenance activities, minimizing the impact on fleet operations.
- Supervise and manage a team of fleet maintenance technicians and shop operations ensuring they are trained, efficient, and productive.
- Ensure proper staffing levels to meet the maintenance needs of the fleet.
- Foster a safety-first culture, ensuring that maintenance teams follow all safety protocols and guidelines.
- Ensure that all vehicles comply with state, federal, and industry regulations, including inspections, licensing, and certifications.
- Enforce safety policies, and ensure all equipment is roadworthy and meets compliance standards (e.g., DOT, FMCSA).
- Perform routine audits of equipment, shop locations and fleet records to ensure compliance with regulations.
- Manage relationships with third-party vendors, suppliers, and service providers for outsourced repairs and services.
- Utilize fleet management software to track maintenance schedules, repair history, and vehicle performance.
- Provide regular reports to the operations team on fleet status, maintenance activities, cost analysis, and operational efficiencies.
OTHER SIGNIFICANT JOB FUNCTIONS INCLUDE:
- Travel required to oversee maintenance across multiple locations or sites.
- Availability for after-hours support as needed.
- Occasional work in a shop or outdoor environment, including inspections of vehicles and equipment.
Requirements
REQUIRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:
- Associate’s degree and or 5+ years of experience in fleet maintenance, preferably in the trucking industry, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or managerial role.
REQUIRED SKILLS (TECHNICAL, CLERICAL, LANGUAGE, ETC.):
- ASE Certification (Automotive Service Excellence) in Medium/Heavy Truck.
- CDL (Commercial Driver’s License) preferred but not required.
- Excellent leadership and people management skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and critical thinking skills to address mechanical and operational issues.
- Strong knowledge of regulatory compliance, including DOT, FMCSA, and OSHA standards.
- Proficient in using fleet maintenance management systems (e.g., TMT, Samsara, Fleet Locate etc.)
- Microsoft Office Suite, Outlook, Excel, Word
