Overview
The Regional Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) Advisor is responsible for ensuring compliance with and supporting HMS Health, Safety, and Environmental Programs.
Responsibilities
- Ensure all marine operations adhere to Health, Safety, and Environmental standards.
- Monitor marine activities related to HSE matters.
- Ensure activities comply with the Safety Management System requirements.
- Coordinate with company personnel on HSE issues.
- Conduct safety inspections and visits aboard vessels and regional facilities.
- Assist in ISM audits of company equipment and facilities.
- Support HSE orientations for new hires in the region.
- Organize and participate in safety seminars, meetings, and drills.
- Maintain compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Advise vessel crews and field staff on HSE matters and improvements.
- Report HSE issues and improvement areas to the CLL Safety Team.
- Assist in new project development as needed.
- Investigate incidents and recommend corrective actions.
- Manage the company safety program.
- Promote accident and spill-free operations.
- Participate in the Regional Emergency Response team and respond to incidents.
- Support incident investigations with the Director of HSE.
- Research and stay updated on regulatory information.
- Contribute to training and professional development of marine personnel.
- Enhance the safety record of vessels and crews.
- Assist in developing operational procedures.
- Support TMSA activities and external audits.
- Assist with SIRE Program activities as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned by senior management.
Qualifications
- Experience in the maritime industry.
- Courtesy, tact, and good judgment in dealing with others.
- Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
- Ability to work independently with minimal guidance.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Valid State driver’s license.
- Obtain TWIC within 90 days of hire.
- Strong communication skills in English (reading, speaking, writing, typing).
Job Conditions and Environment
- Boarding tugs, barges, and ships in all weather conditions and hours.
- Exposure to various weather conditions (rain, snow, heat, wind, heavy seas).
Expected Hours of Work
- Standard hours are 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
- Available 24/7 for emergency calls as per call schedule.
