Job description

Overview

The Regional Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) Advisor is responsible for ensuring compliance with and supporting HMS Health, Safety, and Environmental Programs.

Responsibilities
  1. Ensure all marine operations adhere to Health, Safety, and Environmental standards.
  2. Monitor marine activities related to HSE matters.
  3. Ensure activities comply with the Safety Management System requirements.
  4. Coordinate with company personnel on HSE issues.
  5. Conduct safety inspections and visits aboard vessels and regional facilities.
  6. Assist in ISM audits of company equipment and facilities.
  7. Support HSE orientations for new hires in the region.
  8. Organize and participate in safety seminars, meetings, and drills.
  9. Maintain compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
  10. Advise vessel crews and field staff on HSE matters and improvements.
  11. Report HSE issues and improvement areas to the CLL Safety Team.
  12. Assist in new project development as needed.
  13. Investigate incidents and recommend corrective actions.
  14. Manage the company safety program.
  15. Promote accident and spill-free operations.
  16. Participate in the Regional Emergency Response team and respond to incidents.
  17. Support incident investigations with the Director of HSE.
  18. Research and stay updated on regulatory information.
  19. Contribute to training and professional development of marine personnel.
  20. Enhance the safety record of vessels and crews.
  21. Assist in developing operational procedures.
  22. Support TMSA activities and external audits.
  23. Assist with SIRE Program activities as needed.
  24. Perform other duties as assigned by senior management.
Qualifications
  1. Experience in the maritime industry.
  2. Courtesy, tact, and good judgment in dealing with others.
  3. Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
  4. Ability to work independently with minimal guidance.
  5. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  6. Valid State driver’s license.
  7. Obtain TWIC within 90 days of hire.
  8. Strong communication skills in English (reading, speaking, writing, typing).
Job Conditions and Environment
  • Boarding tugs, barges, and ships in all weather conditions and hours.
  • Exposure to various weather conditions (rain, snow, heat, wind, heavy seas).
Expected Hours of Work
  • Standard hours are 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
  • Available 24/7 for emergency calls as per call schedule.
