Job summary

Burns & McDonnell in Saint Louis, MO seeks a Construction Regional Global Practice Manager to lead growth and strategic development for the Midwest Region. The role drives market strategy, client engagement, and multidisciplinary project delivery in Construction, EPC, and Program Management sectors.

Reporting to the Midwest Region GM, the position emphasizes safety, quality, and financial performance while building a high-performing teams and partner network across regional and global practice

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in construction, engineering, business or related degree from an accredited program and 10 years relevant consulting experience, preferably in the consulting engineering industry or project management required.
• 5 years’ experience of successful management of EPC or similar delivery model projects, including proposal development, contract negotiations, project planning, design team coordination & communication, budgeting, schedule management, and client coordination.
• Must have the ability to deal effectively with a wide variety of government, industry, private, and public contracts on project-related matters.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills; strong interpersonal skills; ability to present complex information to all levels of employees, management, and clients.
• Strong analytical, facilitation, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to manage project budgets and financial data; demonstrated success in budget, savings and/or profit margins in completed projects.
• Preferred project experience includes energy-related projects such as central utility plants, power generation, solar/renewable generation, power transmission, distribution, substations, and industrial and/or mission critical facilities.
• Expert knowledge of project management methodologies and tools including the use of Microsoft Project or equivalent.

• Achieve sales, revenue and income goals and manage succession planning for the MWR Construction Organization.
• Conduct performance evaluations and support diversity initiatives.

The Construction Regional Global Practice Manager is responsible for the strategic development and overall leadership of the Construction Regional Global Practice for the Midwest Region. This includes responsibility for leading and growing the business line and all Construction Global Practice market segments in a dynamic and profitable manner based on Burns & McDonnell's core values of client satisfaction, commitment, dedication, integrity, safety and overall outstanding service. This position will report directly to the Midwest Region General Manager and will work with the Construction Global Practice General Manager and Regional Office leadership while addressing these specific areas of responsibility:

• Represent and lead the Midwest Region Construction Practice.
• Identify key target clients for Burns & McDonnell and organize a focused sales approach strategy.
• Recruit, hire, develop and retain outstanding employee-owners.
• Manage a team – define an organizational structure and work with MWR office leadership to build a multidisciplinary team to deliver Construction only, EPC, and Program Management services to target clients.
• Assist in development and administration of marketing and client maintenance monthly and annual budgets.
• Develop and implement project execution safety, quality and financial controls.
• Develop a long-term strategic plan for growth and sustainability of the Construction business.
• Identify, develop and direct the implementation of business strategies for the practice, including operational strategies and procedures, marketing strategies, pricing strategies, and sales and customer retention strategies.
• Achieves stated targets and standards for financial performance. Present monthly financial information to leadership including schedules and budget forecasts.
• Must be able to maximize profit on projects and achieve the stated targets and standards for financial performance.
• Ensure assigned teams execute projects that meet or exceed client expectations for quality, schedule and budget.
• Plan, coordinate, communicate and facilitate activities of several disciplines on projects of all sizes from conception through completion. Successful completion of projects by collaborating and coordinating with internal and external clients.
• Initiate or assists in proposal development and contract negotiations; responsible for coordinating project planning including scoping, budgeting, maintaining schedules, communicating and managing deadlines and establishing and performing to critical project objectives.
• Ensure adherence to Burns & McDonnell Quality Control program.
• Responsible for ensuring Burns & McDonnell’s Safety program is followed throughout the organization.
• Assemble a team that will do the following in support of growing and improving the practice:
• Create and cultivate key relationships within target client organizations.
• Identify project opportunities early and facilitate go/no-go decisions in cooperation with Regional office leadership and Global practice leadership.
• Facilitate strategy development to pre-sell projects before RFP release.
• Facilitate proposal development for project pursuits.
• Lead contract and negotiations process for projects after selection.
• Develop relationships with key partners, JV partners, and subcontractors.
• Responsible for the sales, revenue and net income goals for the MWR Construction Global Practice.
• Preparing and owning succession planning for the MWR Construction Organization.
• Responsible for ensuring alignment and support of Regional Office staff development, quality control and resource coordination.
• Conduct routine project management training and champion employee development.
• Responsible for conducting performance evaluations for selected department or direct reports.
• Responsible for diversity initiatives.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Measures of Performance

(These performance measures will be quantified in cooperation with the Construction Global Practice Leadership and Regional Office Leadership.)

• Attainment of sales, revenue and income goals for the Construction Practice.
• Growth of the Construction Practice based on sales, revenue, net income (profitability) and staff size.
• Attainment of billable time targets for Construction staff.
