Job summary

Trans Ash, Inc. is seeking an ESH Manager to administer the company's Health and Safety program at job sites across Alabama, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Georgia, West Virginia and North Carolina.

The role ensures compliance with local, state and federal regulations, delivers employee training, develops site-specific safety plans, and guides safety metrics to support long-term project stability and environmental stewardship.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in related field or five years minimum related experience and/or training.
• Safety Professional designation and/or OSHA 500/510 Certifications preferred.
• Knowledge of job safety analysis, JHA writing and safety program development.

Responsibilities

• Implements and maintains company policies adhering to environmental, health and safety regulations for multiple locations.
• Administer employee training programs at multiple locations.
• Assist in design and development of facilities, work areas and work procedures.
• Ensures safety coverage and trains ESH Specialists.
• Investigate accidents and incidents and implement corrective actions.
• Develop relationships with customers and promote the safety program.
• Lead strategies to drive regional goals and provide clear direction to staff.

Founded in 1960 by Rudy Gerbus and his brother as Gerbus Bros Construction, Trans Ash began with a strong foundation in mass earthmoving and heavy civil construction. That construction background remains central to who we are today. Over the decades, Trans Ash has grown into an Ohio-based civil construction and environmental services company supporting power generation, utility, and heavy industrial clients across a wide range of complex projects.

In 2023, Trans Ash became part of NorthStar Group, strengthening our ability to serve customers with expanded resources, broader environmental services capabilities, and the support of a larger national organization.

Today, our work extends well beyond ash handling. Trans Ash performs heavy civil construction services such as large-scale earthwork, site development, clearing and grubbing, erosion controls, haul roads, storm drainage, process water ponds, spillways, concrete support, slope and shoreline stabilization, landfill construction and closure, dredging, ash pond remediation, site restoration, and plant support services.

With experienced field teams, a growing fleet of heavy equipment, and a management team focused on safety, quality, and production, we are equipped to take on demanding construction and environmental projects from planning through completion.

This position will be based out of the home office in Cincinnati, OH, but will include +/- 60% of overnight travel to our out-of-town construction sites. Pay Rate

$130,000 - $145,000 per year

Job Summary

The ESH Manager will administer the company's Health and Safety program at our jobsites in Alabama, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Georgia, West Virginia and North Carolina.

Primary Duties

• Implements and maintains company policies adhering to local, state, federal and customer environmental, health and safety regulations for multiple locations.
• Administer employee training programs at multiple locations.
• Assist in the design and development of facilities, work areas and work procedures.
• Assists ESH Specialists at various locations.
• Ensures compliance with all environmental, health and safety regulations. Keeps up to date on any changes to laws and regulations that impact the organization.
• Investigate reported accidents, incidents and near misses. Evaluate current best practices and then prepare reports and implement corrective actions.
• Develop relationships with our customers at the local and corporate level to promote and incorporate the company's safety program.
• Develop and implement strategies to drive company and regional/department goals and objectives.
• Provides clear direction and objectives to ESH Specialists.
• Ability to ensure safety coverage is available for all sites.

Job Requirements and Qualifications

Education/ Certification

• Bachelor’s degree in related field from four-year college or university or five years minimum related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Safety Professional designation and/or OSHA 500/510 Certifications preferred.

Experience

• Knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within the Mass Excavation Construction business (Caterpillar type equipment) and trucking is a positive.
• DOT Compliance Experience
• Position requires knowledge of job safety analysis, job instructions training, and ability to write complete Site-Specific Safety Plans and job hazard analysis (JHA’s) without supervision.
• Strong written, verbal communications and training skills.
• Must have strong computer skills using Microsoft Windows, Outlook Email, MS Excel, MS Word and MS PowerPoint experience preferred. Ability to use and navigate iPhone and iPad required.

• Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs., work in all types of weather, walk, and stand for extended periods of time.
• Must be physically able to perform the work in hot and/ or cold weather conditions.
• Must be able to work on a construction job site.
• Must be able to walk slopes and uneven terrain.
• Must be able to safely traverse on uneven and rocky soil.
• Will require travel to sites.
• Must have a valid driver’s license.
• Be at least 18 years of age.
• Must be able to successfully pass a drug test (including THC), MVR, and background check.
