Job summary

Vital Strategies (New York, NY) seeks a Regional Deputy Director (RDD), Native Communities, to lead strategy and program implementation for a portfolio focused on tribal relations and overdose prevention. This is a full‑time role, preferably based in the New York City metro area; other US locations may be considered.

Salary range is $135,000–$150,000 USD with comprehensive benefits. Reporting to a Director, the RDD will manage a multidisciplinary team, oversee budgets and subgrants, and

Qualifications

• Minimum 10 years of directly relevant professional experience in harm reduction, overdose prevention, public health, or related fields.
• Minimum 3–5 years working in state or tribal government on tribal relations or with national Native communities organizations.
• Experience supervising diverse professional teams.
• Experience providing technical assistance, capacity building, or programmatic support to external partners.
• Experience monitoring program implementation with data, quality improvement, or evaluation findings.

Responsibilities

• Lead regional multidisciplinary team to develop and monitor a comprehensive portfolio strategy, work plan, and budget.
• Oversee sub-grants to state and local governments, providers, coalitions, and community organizations.
• Represent the program to tribal, national organizations and government partners across the portfolio.
• Lead learning, MERLA, and knowledge management activities for the portfolio.
• Collaborate with legal/policy and knowledge management to support program objectives.
