Job summary

Tandem Foods seeks a Regional Controller, Manufacturing Finance to lead financial operations across four southern California facilities, based in Cypress, CA or Pittsburgh, PA. You will partner with operations on budgeting, close, forecasting, cost/inventory accounting, and profitability analysis to drive cost control and efficiency.

The role requires 8+ years in manufacturing accounting with cost accounting, strong GAAP knowledge, and ERP experience. Travel 10-20% is expected.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field required; Master’s degree and/or CPA preferred.
  • 8+ years of progressive accounting experience within the manufacturing sector, cost accounting experience required.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and proven experience identifying and implementing internal controls.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of financial and cost accounting processes in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience in fixed asset and capital project tracking.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to develop business partnerships.
  • Planning and execution skills with process improvement impact.
  • Team player with cross-department collaboration.
  • Willingness to travel 10-20%.

Responsibilities

  • Manage month end close for four facilities in accordance with U.S. GAAP and standards; review costs and reconcile plant accounts.
  • Improve internal controls; mitigate business risks and set routines for controls.
  • Support annual budgeting and monthly forecasting with reliable cost projections linked to KPIs and standard costs.
  • Prepare and analyze variance and KPI reports; assist leadership with root-cause analysis.
  • Provide cost/benefit analysis and ROI for capital projects with cross-functional partners.
  • Support new product costing aligned with operations and profitability targets.
  • Assist Director, Manufacturing Finance and Plant Management with ad-hoc projects.

Job description

The Regional Controller, Manufacturing Finance provides comprehensive financial leadership over four facilities in southern California. this position can be based in Pittsburgh, PA or Cypress, CA. This person acts as a trusted business partner to operations, supporting the annual budgeting process, monthly financial close and forecasting cycle, cost and inventory accounting, P&L generation and analysis with a focus on variances and KPIs, product costing, and project ROI analysis. This position is broad-ranging and plays a key role within the Finance organization, while being hands-on and ensuring the successful execution of our plants’ strategies. Areas of impact include working cross-functionally to provide financial reporting, insights, and analytics that drive cost control, productivity, and efficiency gains, supporting strategic initiatives, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement with the highest standards of quality.

Essential Functions & Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage a complete and thorough month end close process for four facilities in compliance with U.S. GAAP and industry-specific standards, including cost and spend reviews and reconciliation of plant related balance sheet accounts.
  • Adhere to sound internal control processes, improve any control deficiencies, and set the proper routines and processes related to internal controls; mitigate business risks as they are identified.
  • Support the annual budgeting and monthly forecasting process, developing reliable and accurate cost projections while linking financial performance to underlying KPIs and standard costs to ensure execution.
  • Prepare and analyze daily, weekly, and monthly variance and KPI reports, identifying gaps, risks, and opportunities; support plant leadership in identification of root causes and ensure adequacy of corrective actions through continued monitoring and analysis.
  • Use critical thinking and analytical skills to serve as a change agent and provide proactive ideas and tangible recommendations to increase efficiency and productivity while managing costs.
  • Analyze and reconcile monthly inventories, ensuring the accuracy of reported results, including aged inventory and required reserves.
  • Respond to annual audit and various compliance requests as needed.
  • Participate in and support a high performing culture focused on process improvement, delivering results, and value creation.
  • Work with project engineering to develop cost/benefit analysis, including ROI and payback, for strategic capital projects.
  • Support new product costing, ensuring alignment with operational parameters and inputs, comparable historical data, and profitability targets; provide advice and guidance on trade-offs to both Operations and Commercial.
  • Assist Director, Manufacturing Finance and Plant Management with ad-hoc projects as needed.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of financial and cost accounting processes and procedures in a manufacturing environment, including accounting for and maintaining inventory and generating standard costing.
  • Experience in fixed asset and capital project tracking.
  • Strong communication skills and a proven ability to develop business partnerships supported by rapport and trust with stakeholders.
  • Strong planning and execution skills with demonstrated business, systems, and process improvement impact in previous roles.
  • Team player with a collaborative approach, cooperative attitude, and ability to work across multiple departments.
  • Energized by working in a fast-paced environment with an emphasis on meeting deadlines and addressing urgent situations.
  • Extensive experience using and mastering financial systems, including ERPs and financial reporting platforms.
  • Advanced user of Microsoft Excel and experience with financial modeling and analysis.
  • Ability to travel 10-20%
