Job description

Job Summary

Reporting to the Corporate Controller, the Plant Controller will manage and administer all division accounting and finance functions. The role involves leading timely, accurate and complete submission of all financial data including monthly financial results, annual budgets, monthly forecasting and monthly financial analysis; understanding and explaining variances to all levels of Management and advising on actions to achieve improved results and overall recommendations for improvement. The position works closely with other accounting staff and Department Managers/Supervisors on accounting‑related issues and serves as a business partner for the plant operations team. The role is onsite/hybrid based in our Bristol, PA plant.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and administer all plant accounting functions
  • Lead the monthly financial close process, including preparation and review of journal entries, account analysis and monthly balance‑sheet account reconciliations
  • Implement and maintain accounting processes, procedures and related internal controls
  • Analyze manufacturing costs and prepare reports comparing standard costs to actual production costs; analyze variances
  • Continuously evaluate inventory and cost accounting processes and recommend improvements in accordance with GAAP
  • Own the cycle‑count process, organize and schedule physical inventory counts at various times throughout the year (at least annually) and partner with purchasing, operations and supply chain to manage accurate inventory balances
  • Assist with review of inventory transactions and resolve any discrepancies identified
  • Lead budgeting and forecast process
  • Evaluate financial performance by comparing actual results with budget and forecasts
  • Coordinate with outside auditors to ensure a successful year‑end audit
  • Perform financial forecasting, reporting and operational metrics tracking
  • Analyze customer profitability and operational performance
  • Identify and drive process improvements, including creating standard and ad‑hoc reports, tools and Excel dashboards in collaboration with IT
  • Work with Plant Operations teams to monitor and control expenses, develop and implement enhanced metrics, identify areas for improvement and implement corrective actions as required
  • Work with Plant Operations and FP&A teams to support capital spending requirements and justifications
  • Track, validate and report cost‑savings and value‑creation projects to drive continuous cost improvements
  • Ensure compliance with all company, accounting and government standards, policies and regulations
  • Assist the Corporate Controller with evaluating and implementing new accounting guidance
  • Build solid collaborative relationships within Finance and across the organization
  • Identify business improvement opportunities and partner with operations, manufacturing and sales to capitalize on them
  • Manage governmental compliance and regulatory changes

Some travel may be required.

Qualifications
  • Minimum 8 years of accounting experience, preferably in manufacturing and with a working knowledge of GAAP
  • Strong understanding of standard costing, bill of materials (BOM) and routing processes
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related business field; Master’s, CPA or CMA highly valued
  • Proficiency in ERP systems
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office, especially Excel formulas and functions
  • Strong analytical and data‑gathering skills
  • Strong business and accounting acumen
  • Assertive, self‑starter with excellent interpersonal communication and problem‑solving skills
  • Basic experience creating reports via Access queries, Crystal Reports or other tools
  • Capability to be a doer, rolling up sleeves, leading and growing a team
  • Willingness to take initiative, work independently and follow through to complete tasks
  • Excellent time‑management and attention‑to‑detail skills

Working Conditions
  • Office environment; use of computer, copier, etc.
  • Must be able to sit for extended periods of time consistently
  • Must be able to move and lift up to 40 lbs. intermittently
  • Minimal travel may be required for conferences, seminars, etc.
  • Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment in production areas: eye protection, steel‑toe shoes, hair net, hearing protection
