Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of progressively responsible accounting experience within food manufacturing.
  • Bachelor’s in Accounting, Finance, or similar field required.
  • Proficient in Excel modeling and analytics.
  • Proficient with ERP systems.
  • Strong understanding of P&L, GL, standard costing, and cost accounting.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee budgeting, accounting, and financial reporting for the plant.
  • Manage cost accounting, including product costing, variance and margin analysis.
  • Lead month-end and quarter-end closings and prepare financial statements.
  • Develop standard costing models for materials, labor, and overhead.
  • Analyze production costs and identify cost-saving opportunities.
  • Coordinate with production and operations teams for improvement initiatives.
  • Prepare cost reports and KPI analyses for senior management.
  • Lead annual budgeting and manufacturing cost forecasting.

Job description

The Operations Controller will play a key role in managing the financial operations of the company, ensuring accuracy in financial reporting, production cost accounting and analysis, and standard costs. This role is responsible for driving financial analytics that help reduce costs and achieve productivity. This position will work closely with Operations Managers, the CFO, and other senior management to support strategic financial planning and decision-making.

**Due to the hands-on nature of their business, the role is not available for a home based or hybrid work situation

  • Oversee the financial operations, including budgeting, accounting, and financial reporting for the plant, as well as monitoring and analyzing financial performance.
  • Manage the cost accounting function, ensuring accurate product costing, variance analysis, and margin analysis.
  • Manage month-end and quarter-end closing processes, including the review of cost-related journal entries, reconciliation of general ledger accounts and preparation of financial statements.
  • Develop and maintain standard costing models for raw materials, labor, and overhead.
  • Analyze production costs and recommend cost-saving measures to improve profitability.
  • Coordinate and guide with the production and operations teams to support continuous improvement initiatives and efficiency projects.
  • Prepare and present cost reports to senior management, highlighting key variances and trends with commentary and action plans.
  • Prepare and present daily KPI metrics and trends and present performance analysis of labor and material usage variances.
  • Lead the annual budgeting and forecasting processes for manufacturing costs.
  • Manage inventory valuation processes, including cycle counts, physical inventory, and reconciliation.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and company policies in all cost accounting practices.
  • Collaborate with the corporate accounting team on financial close processes and external audits.
  • Identify best practices within the role and strive to improve processes and efficiency.

Qualifications/Experience Needed
  • Recommended minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible accounting experience within a food manufacturing company or division of a corporation.
  • Bachelor’s in Accounting, Finance, or similar field required
  • Proficient in Excel modeling and analytics
  • Proficient with ERP systems
  • Strong understanding of profit & loss statement, general ledger, standard costing, and cost accounting.
