Job summary

Kroger seeks a Capital Projects Manager for its Blue Ash, OH location to oversee store construction programs including new stores, remodels, and fuel centers. You will manage design, bids, and contractor coordination, ensuring on-time, on-budget delivery and compliance with safety standards.

You will lead and mentor project teams, collaborate with Real Estate and store operations, and travel up to 75% to represent Kroger with external partners. A civil/MEP/architecture background is preferred.

Qualifications

  • 5 years field construction project management experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Construction Management or Architecture or related field
  • Understanding allocation/management of capital/capital project's processes/procedures
  • Interpret construction documents/financial information
  • Plan and coordinate with contractors and internal stakeholders
  • Ability to travel independently (75%)

  • Develop/execute new store, remodel and fuel programs; complete within budget and shortest time
  • Develop site plans, architectural, structural, MEP design analysis and estimated costs

  • Provide allocation/management of capital and capital projects
  • Ensure SWPPP, OSHA compliance and contract documentation
  • Partner with Legal on representations and compliance issues
  • Manage non-union/union labor issues and disputes
  • Anticipate opportunities/events affecting schedule
  • Train/lead/direct internal/external resources
  • Supervise/coach direct reports; perform performance reviews

Job description

Manage capital expenditures for store construction projects (e.g. new/expansion remodels/within-the-walls remodels /fuel centers). Oversee/direct construction activities (e.g. site feasibility/mechanical/electrical/plumbing (MEP) design/structural design/analysis/contractors) independently or with senior construction manager. Serve as a contact for the local division Real Estate Manager, V.P. and President. Role model and demonstrate the company's core values of respect, honesty, integrity, diversity, inclusion and safety of others.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee /direct multiple store construction projects (e.g. new/expansion remodels/within-the-walls remodels /fuel centers), including site investigation for feasibility.
  • Develop/execute new store, remodel and fuel programs. Execute completion at or under budget and in the shortest time period, consistent with merchandising and store operations needs and contract specifications.
  • Develop site plans, architectural, structural, MEP design analysis and estimated costs.
  • Bid/award construction contracts, negotiate changes and supervise construction.
  • Provide allocation/management of capital and capital projects using the company's processes/procedures.
  • Accountability to oversee documentation/compliance of SWPPP, OSHA regulations, construction contracts and capital management practices.
  • Partner with Legal to represent the company regarding legal issues (i.e. arbitrations, compliance issues).
  • Manage/provide guidance regarding non-union/union labor issues and/or disputes.
  • Anticipate opportunities/events that impact the schedule.
  • Train/lead/direct the work of internal/external resources (i.e. project managers, contractors and consultants).
  • Supervise and coach direct reports in the performance of their duties; complete performance reviews and provide feedback to direct reports.

Qualifications
Desired Education and Previous Job Experience
  • Experience in regional construction projects including due diligence and project planning
  • Experience/knowledge related to: the maintenance/energy fields; store planning processes/procedures; store mechanical services processes/procedures
  • Knowledge of equipment purchasing software (e-Pro) and the construction project management tool (Sitefolio)
  • Regional Project Manager/Division Project Manager
Minimum Position Qualifications
  • 5 years field construction project management experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Construction Management or Architecture or related field
  • Understanding allocation/management of capital/capital project's processes/procedures
  • Interpret construction documents/financial information
  • Demonstrated ability/sound judgment with limited supervision
  • Success leading contractors and retail management
  • Knowledge of equipment purchasing software (e-Pro), construction project management tool (Sitefolio)-Internal candidates
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office
  • Understanding of partnering department's roles and responsibilities (i.e. Store Planning, Procurement, Maintenance, Energy, Mechanical Services)
  • Organization and time management skills
  • Supervisory/leadership, conflict management and negotiation skills
  • Communication skills; ability to communicate effectively with all levels within the organization and external vendors
  • Ability to travel independently (75%)
