Job summary

University of Michigan Health-West seeks a Professional Coding Supervisor to oversee system-wide coding operations, drive performance improvements, and ensure adherence to productivity, quality, and compliance standards within the HIM department.

You will lead a team, develop dashboards, collaborate with physicians and hospital staff, and participate in meetings and educational activities while pursuing continual learning and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

• Associate's degree in HIM or relevant health care field or 5+ years of relevant Coding experience.
• Foundational Coding Credential: CPC or CCS-P certification in good standing.
• Minimum of 1 year of lead or supervisory experience.
• Epic experience.
• Bachelor's degree preferred.
• Optum and/or 3M encoder experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide oversight and day-to-day management of the hospital professional coding.
• Develop and implement methods to attain and maintain coding metrics; establish dashboards.
• Communicate regulatory information to coding specialists and ensure compliant application of regulations.
• Assist in recording documentation, data collections, data retrieval and data interpretation.
• Coordinate processes to comply with coding, billing, regulatory or data registry requirements.
• Collaborate with other departments or programs.
• Maintain effective communication with physicians and hospital staff regarding coding issues.
• Participate in organizational meetings and workshops.
