Job summary

Regional Chief Instructor for CSC oversees adjunct faculty across multiple regional campuses and coordinates seminar cohorts, faculty assignments and instructional quality.

The role includes teaching at least one course per academic year, conducting faculty development, and ensuring compliance with grading and survey processes. Active clearance and prior military- or defense-history background are preferred.

Qualifications

  • Joint Qualified Officer or joint-duty background desired for 8900 Series, required for 9000 Series.
  • Socratic teaching experience desired.
  • Planning experience and operational experience commensurate with being a graduate of ILS, SAW, or TLS desired.

Responsibilities

  • Submit qualified Adjunct Faculty biographies to the CDET Dean of Academics for verification of qualifications.
  • Meet the CDET instructor evaluation standards for onsite and online seminars.
  • Teach at least 1 course per academic year in their programs (CSCDEP, EWSDEP or ECDEP).
  • Conduct faculty development with adjunct faculty in each region, using CDET FD tools and in conjunction with the CDET FD program.
  • Ensure adjunct faculty complete Faculty Orientation 101 training and determine strengths and weaknesses.
  • Interact with CDET associate deans and course subject matter experts to maintain content currency.
  • Monitor Institutional Research data and brief results to the RD.
  • Evaluate students and adjunct end of course feedback and provide recommendations.
  • Ensure grading follows program handbooks and rubrics; report grades within 10 days of course completion.
  • Attend the annual CDET Faculty workshop at Quantico VA; visit remote locations semi-annually.
  • Deliver feedback to the RD and Dean of Academics on AF performance monthly and annually.
  • Review and recommend papers for MCU writing awards.
  • Ensure LMS enrollment and provide basic LMS support to faculty and students.
  • Grade students' papers and planning products as per course closeout policies.

Job purpose

The Regional Chief Instructor for CSC manages and develops CSC adjunct faculty, coordinates seminar cohorts and faculty assignments, monitors instructional quality, and supports students and faculty across CDET regional campuses.

Duties and responsibilities
  • Submit qualified Adjunct Faculty (AF) biographies to the CDET Dean of Academics for verification of qualifications.
  • Meet the CDET instructor evaluation standards for its onsite and online seminars.
  • Teach at least 1 course (by course number) per academic year (AY) in their respective programs (CSCDEP, EWSDEP or ECDEP).
  • Conduct faculty development (FD) (to include instructional methods) with AF in each region, using CDET FD tools and in conjunction with the CDET FD program. The Contractor shall provide AF with ten (10) hours of local FD per AY.
  • Ensure respective AF complete Faculty Orientation 101 training and determine AF strengths and weaknesses.
  • Interact routinely with CDET associate deans and course subject matter experts/directors to maintain content currency and to assist with AF questions.
  • Monitor Institutional Research (IR) data and reports for each region and brief results to the respective RD.
  • Evaluate students and AF end of course feedback and provide the RD and Associate Deans with electronic feedback recommendations.
  • Ensure AF grading follows each program's faculty handbook and grading rubrics, and ensure all grades are reported within the CDET LSS within 10 days of course completion or report any unfinished activity to the RD in accordance with CDET Policy 5-17.
  • Ensure that faculty complete end-of-course (EOC) surveys via the LMS at the end of each seminar course. The Contractor shall encourage maximum participation of student responses for EOC surveys.
  • Make a minimum of two visits per year, on a semi-annual basis, to remote locations within the regions that have AF-led seminars.
  • Deliver feedback to the RD and CDET Dean of Academics on AF performance, per CDET faculty evaluation criteria, monthly and provide an annual cumulative assessment on all regional faculty.
  • Review and recommend papers for MCU writing awards.
  • Ensure LMS enrollment of eligible faculty and students into courses and provide faculty and students with limited basic LMS support.
  • Grade students' papers, essays, planning products and perform any additional grading requirements as specified in the CDET course closeout policies and timelines.
  • Attend the annual CDET Faculty workshop at Quantico VA, which is normally five consecutive days in the summer months.
  • Collect any adjunct faculty ad hoc reports as required by CDET or MCU.

Years of Relative Work Experience
  • Military: LtCol or above.
  • Civilian who is an ILS, SAW, or TLS graduate, or with a Master's or PhD in Military, American, European, or Diplomatic History; or in Strategic Studies, International Relations, or related field.
Clearance
  • Minimum Tier 1 background investigation and Government-access eligibility are required; an active Secret clearance is required before supporting classified events or tasks.
