Job summary

AARP seeks an Associate State Director for Advocacy and Community Engagement in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. You will lead community activities, grassroots outreach, coalition-building, and volunteer programs to advance local policy priorities and improve outcomes for adults 50+.

You will represent AARP with elected officials, agencies, and partner groups to advance mission-focused advocacy. The role requires strategic leadership, cross-functional collaboration, and the ability to work with

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree and 5+ years in advocacy and community engagement.
• Experience in grassroots organizing and mobilization.
• Ability to develop strategies and manage multiple projects.
• Strong interpersonal skills in a matrixed environment.
• Ability to travel up to 50% locally.

Responsibilities

• Identifies issues of public policy and develops advocacy strategies at local, state, and federal levels.
• Collaborates with partners on campaign communication strategies and grassroots tools.
• Engages staff, volunteers, members, and cross-organization teams to meet engagement goals.
• Represents the organization to government agencies, media, and the public.
• Builds relationships with elected officials and coalitions to raise visibility.
• Crafts persuasive narratives for diverse audiences; communicates findings and progress.
• Recruits, trains, and deploys volunteers aligned with organizational priorities.
