Qualifications

Job Overview

The Refugee Cultural and Community Liaison is a non-exempt position responsible for facilitating culturally appropriate mental health and psychosocial support services to trauma-affected refugees. The role includes conducting community outreach and education for the STAR Program.

Responsibilities
  1. Determine the needs for medical, legal, mental health, educational, and social services.
  2. Assist clients with enrolling in services aligned with their service plans.
  3. Complete necessary forms to enroll eligible clients.
  4. Provide orientation to newly enrolled clients.
  5. Develop individualized service plans to promote self-sufficiency.
  6. Conduct quarterly assessments of service plans.
  7. Provide case management to enrolled clients.
  8. Assess transportation needs and provide transportation when necessary.
  9. Accompany clients to appointments.
  10. Maintain case files in accordance with regulations and agency policies.
  11. Conduct community outreach and provide trauma-informed mental health first aid.
  12. Document financial assistance provided towards client goals.
  13. Complete required grant and agency forms.
  14. Ensure compliance with grant guidelines and deadlines.
  15. Perform additional duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent; Bachelor’s degree in social services or related field preferred.
  • At least 2 years of relevant experience or a combination of education and life experience.
  • Bilingual skills, preferably in Spanish and/or Haitian Creole.
  • Experience working with refugees and immigrants is preferred.
  • Ability to handle stressful situations and client trauma.
  • Professionalism in dealing with community partners, clients, and colleagues.
  • Knowledge of community resources and organizations.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to advocate and liaise with health and social services systems.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with data-tracking systems.
  • Valid driver’s license and auto insurance; ability to use personal vehicle for client transportation.
