This position is for 2nd & 3rd shift Refrigeration Technicians.

Description Summary

Organizes and performs advanced service, repairs, troubleshooting, and overhauls to Anhydrous Ammonia Refrigeration System(s) in a manner that complies with federal, state, local, IIAR, and RETA codes and standards, as well as company rules, PSM/RMP policies, safe work practices, and RAGAGEP’s.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities
  • Fulfills all duties as described within the Refrigeration Operator job description, and adheres to all requirements therein.
  • Checks ammonia valves located on the roof of the manufacturing plant, outside condenser, and exhaust fans.
  • Executes complex repairs and major overhauls to system components and associated equipment, utilizing OEM recommendations and specifications and recognized engineering practices.
  • Understands complex electrical schematics, PLC control functions, and electrical distribution systems; troubleshoots root causes and determines proper repairs.
  • Performs charging, evacuation, and pressure testing of system vessels and components during projects and line breaking procedures, following established policies and industry standards.
  • Performs installation and replacement of refrigeration system components and equipment within management change procedures.
  • Analyzes system data and trending values to identify needs for increased maintenance or improved procedures and safe work practices.
  • Assists management in supervising and documenting contractor activity and performance around process equipment.
  • Plans resolutions to system deficiencies noted in PSM audit logs, maintaining documentation to support activities.
  • Provides mechanical and technical guidance to operation-level refrigeration operators to improve skills and knowledge.
  • Participates as a member of the Emergency Response Team, responding to chemical releases and spills.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Two years of verifiable ammonia refrigeration experience.
  • RETA-based Industrial Ammonia Operator Level II training, RETA CIRO certification, Hazmat Technician Level, and annual refresher training.
  • Medical evaluation, physical exam, and pulmonary testing for Hazmat purposes, required pre-employment and annually.
Abilities, Knowledge, and Skills
  • Skilled in machinery repair, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
  • Critical thinking to evaluate solutions.
  • Knowledge of machines, tools, and their maintenance.
  • Ability to wear respirators and respond to emergencies.
  • Work at heights and in hazardous environments, including roof access.
Physical Requirements

No unusual physical requirements; position involves typical manufacturing physical demands.

Work Environment

Primarily indoor manufacturing setting near heavy machinery; some outdoor work including roof access. Safety gear required, including PPE and Hazmat equipment as needed.
