Job summary

Clark Service Group seeks an experienced Refrigeration Technician to perform startup and commissioning on walk-in refrigeration units and diagnose issues on new installations. You will support the Installation team by running refrigerant lines, electrical and plumbing work under supervision, and ensure proper equipment operation per specs.

Ideal candidates have EPA Universal Certification, 3–5 years in refrigeration trades, and strong diagnostic and teamwork skills.

Qualifications

  • 3 to 5 years of experience as a qualified refrigeration tradesperson.
  • EPA Universal Certification is required.
  • OSHA 30 Certification is preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, diagrams, and reference materials.
  • Knowledge of walk-in refrigeration systems, including coolers and freezers.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record; DOT Physical may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Perform start-ups on walk-in refrigeration units, including pressure testing, evacuation, charging, and setting system parameters.
  • Diagnose and resolve issues on newly installed refrigeration units, including punch-list and warranty items.
  • Support the Installation team during installation by running refrigerant, electrical, and plumbing lines under supervision.
  • Set and level equipment to manufacturer and project specifications; braze and solder lines.
  • Complete wiring and electrical connections for start-up; perform superheat and subcooling calculations.
  • Communicate proactively with Installation/Project Managers about project status and issues.
  • Maintain safety and quality workmanship; adhere to schedules and site rules.
  • Work nights, weekends, and travel as required; demonstrate leadership and teamwork.

Job description

The Refrigeration Technician is responsible for performing start-ups on walk-in refrigeration units, diagnosing and resolving issues on newly installed refrigeration equipment, and providing hands-on support to the Installation team during the installation of refrigeration systems. This role requires strong technical knowledge of commercial refrigeration systems, sound diagnostic ability, and a commitment to quality workmanship on every job.

Duties
  • Perform start-ups on walk-in refrigeration units, including pressure testing, evacuation, charging of systems, and setting system parameters for proper operation.
  • Diagnose and resolve issues arising on newly installed refrigeration units, including punch-list and warranty-related items identified during or after installation.
  • Support the Installation team by assisting with the installation of refrigeration systems, including running refrigerant, electrical, and plumbing lines under Foreman supervision.
  • Set and level refrigeration equipment to manufacturer and project specifications.
  • Braze and solder refrigeration lines in accordance with industry standards.
  • Complete wiring and electrical connections and make final connections required for equipment start-up.
  • Perform superheat and subcooling calculations to verify proper refrigeration system operation.
  • Follow a logical order of operations when diagnosing start-up and post-installation issues.
  • Effectively solve problems in the field and provide creative, code-compliant solutions.
  • Communicate proactively with the Installation Manager and/or Project Manager regarding unusual or costly situations, scheduling concerns, and project status.
  • Comply with established project schedules and complete all assigned tasks with a high standard of workmanship and time management.
  • Communicate effectively with the Installation office, general contractors, and external project managers regarding job status.
  • Promote a positive work environment and a company culture centered on safety.
  • Work occasional nights, weekends, and out-of-town assignments as project needs require.
  • Demonstrate a mindset for leadership and collaboration within a team environment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
  • 3 to 5 years of experience as a qualified and competent refrigeration tradesperson.
  • EPA Universal Certification (required).
  • OSHA 30 Certification (preferred).
Qualifications
  • Working knowledge of commercial refrigeration systems, including walk-in coolers and freezers.
  • Knowledge of electrical and plumbing systems as they relate to refrigeration equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, diagrams, and reference materials.
  • Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot refrigeration system issues on new installations.
  • Positive attitude and drive to learn.
  • Reliable transportation.
  • Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
  • Must be able to operate Non-CDL Commercial Motor Vehicles, including DOT Physical requirement.
  • General organization of tasks and self-motivated.
  • All employees are subject to annual background checks, clearances, and certifications. Drug tests are administered before and periodically during employment.
Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to work in extreme conditions (i.e., hot, cold, dirty environments, etc.).
  • Must be able to bend, reach, and kneel repeatedly and for lengths of time.
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to sit for long periods (usually for travel).
  • Must be able to lift, push/pull 100 pounds.
  • Must be able to climb and work from step ladders and extension ladders at various heights for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to work in all food service environments.
  • Must be able to pass a DOT Physical.
  • Must be able to drive box truck up to 26′ long.
  • Must be able to work around elevated environments in ceilings and on roofs.
