Job summary

Pilgrim's in Canton, Georgia, is seeking a Refrigeration Technician to maintain, repair, and optimize ammonia refrigeration systems and related equipment. You will work with a swing shift and support safety protocols within a busy plant environment.

The role requires hands-on experience with ammonia or Freon systems, ability to read gauges, and the training of operators. The position emphasizes safety, compliance, and operational readiness.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• 2-4 years of experience in ammonia or Freon refrigeration, boiler operations, and/or compressed air systems preferred.
• Understanding of refrigerant expansion and pressure-temperature relationships.
• Ability to direct and train operators.
• Willingness to serve as a Hazardous Materials (HAZMAT) Team Member.
• Capability to read and use dial gauges and precision instruments.

Responsibilities

• Maintain, repair, rebuild, and adjust ammonia refrigeration systems and related equipment.
• Analyze, calibrate, replace, repair, and rebuild equipment per procedures.
• Maintain personal tools and demonstrate safe use of tools and equipment.
• Supply personal hand tools for system operation and preventive maintenance.
• Comply with all safety policies and procedures.
• Participate on the Process Safety Management (PSM) Team and maintain respirator fit testing requirements.
• Perform routine rounds and inspections across the ammonia refrigeration system.
• Safely isolate and pump down sections of refrigeration systems.
• Perform line opening procedures per safety protocols.
• Receive and transfer ammonia within plant systems as qualified.
• Perform routine maintenance on ammonia compressors and related equipment.
• Troubleshoot and repair electrical controls on refrigeration and ammonia systems.
• Keep engine rooms, compressor rooms, and roof areas clean and organized.
• Work a swing shift as required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• 2-4 years of experience in ammonia or Freon refrigeration, boiler operations, and/or compressed air systems preferred.

• Working knowledge of departmental computer systems and PCs.
• Must be willing and able to serve as a Hazardous Materials (HAZMAT) Team Member.
• Must pass CARO and/or CIRO operator certifications, or be willing to obtain certification.
• Ability to read and use dial gauges, micrometers, and precision measuring instruments for alignment of motors, pumps, and related equipment.
• Ability to work in environments with occasional exposure to carbon dioxide vapors (up to 10 ppm) and chlorine (less than 20 ppm).
• Ability to stand for extended periods.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical activities including reaching, bending, pushing, and pulling.

Responsibilities

• Maintain, repair, rebuild, and adjust ammonia refrigeration systems and related equipment.

• Maintain all required personal tools and demonstrate the ability to safely use hand tools and industrial shop equipment.
• Supply personal hand tools necessary to operate systems, perform preventive maintenance inspections, and complete repairs.
• Comply with all company safety policies and procedures.
• Participate as a member of the Process Safety Management (PSM) Team and maintain respirator fit testing requirements.
• Perform routine rounds and inspections throughout the shift across the entire ammonia refrigeration system.
• Safely isolate and pump down any section of refrigeration systems.
• Perform line opening procedures in accordance with safety protocols.
• Receive and transfer ammonia within plant systems as qualified.
• Perform routine maintenance on ammonia compressors and related equipment.
• Troubleshoot and repair electrical controls on refrigeration and ammonia systems.
• Maintain engine rooms, compressor rooms, and roof areas in a clean and organized condition.
• Work a swing shift schedule as required.
