Job summary

TPS/ Tenney Environmental is seeking a skilled installer/technician to build, install, repair and troubleshoot industrial refrigeration systems in Columbia, PA. The role requires reading drawings, understanding safety rules, and performing soldering, brazing and welding tasks with hand tools.

Candidates should have a two-year HVAC certificate or equivalent experience and be willing to work overtime to meet production deadlines. Forklift certification is a plus.

Qualifications

  • Two year HVAC certificate or 1–2 years related experience or equivalent combination.
  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules and manuals; basic blueprint reading.

Responsibilities

  • Builds, installs, repairs and troubleshoots industrial refrigeration systems per plan.
  • Read drawings to assemble refrigeration systems.
  • Solder/braze copper connections and weld components as needed.
  • Use hand tools and test systems for leaks, pressure and function.
  • Cross-train in mechanical assembly and equipment construction.

Summary:

Builds, installs, repairs and troubleshoots industrial refrigeration systems by performing the following duties:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Lays out reference points for installation of structural and functional components; drills holes and installs mounting brackets and hangers to properly secure plumbing and components.
  • Ability to read and utilize drawings to build refrigeration systems according to plan and function.
  • Lifts or hoists components into proper position and mechanically fastens with appropriate method.
  • Ability to solder and braze copper-to-copper connections or dissimilar metals using 3%, 15%, or 56% solder.
  • MIG and TIG welding skills sufficient to add structural components and/or tack components to structures.
  • Ability to distinguish between different types of metal tubing and fittings.
  • Ability to use hand tools such as tubing /pipe benders, deburring tools, pneumatic and electric drills, pipe cutters, saws, etc.
  • Cuts, threads, and connects pipe to functional components of system to interconnect fluid and refrigeration systems.
  • Reads gauges and instruments, adjusts mechanisms such as valves, controls, and pumps to leak check, evacuate, and charge systems with refrigerant.
  • Troubleshoots/dismantles malfunctioning systems and tests components, replaces/adjusts defective or worn parts.
  • Insulates refrigeration, fluid or other plumbing systems.
  • Assembles, tests, and installs humidification systems as required.
  • In addition to refrigeration work, this position is also responsible for cross-training in mechanical assembly and learning to build our equipment.

Education and/or Experience:

Two year HVAC certificate from an accredited college or technical school; or 1-2 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

Mathematical Skills:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to accurately read a tape measure.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

Universal refrigeration certification and forklift license desired or willingness achieve for both certifications.

Computer Skills:

Basic computer skills are desirable.

Other Qualifications:

Must be able to perform basic blueprint reading. Familiarity with basic hand tools such as hand drills, wrenches, sockets screwdrivers. Must be willing work overtime on an as‑needed basis to maintain production deadlines.
