Job summary

Safeway is seeking a Refrigeration Technician to keep stores running safely and efficiently. Install, troubleshoot, and repair refrigeration, HVAC, mechanical and electrical systems; perform preventive maintenance; operate EMS and BMS; document findings and maintain compliance.

You’ll join our in-house maintenance team, require EPA 608 certification and a valid driver’s license; be comfortable with on‑call overtime, weekends, and data entry for work orders.

Qualifications

• EPA Section 608 Universal Certification required.
• Valid driver’s license required.
• Excellent verbal and written communication with store/division customers.
• Willing to work overtime on weekends/holidays/on-call.
• Must be 21+ years old.
• Able to read manuals, prints and work orders.
• Computer literate and able to use web-based work orders.

Responsibilities

• Make daily mechanical checks on equipment in Mechanical Room, Roof, HVAC, EMS systems, refrigerated cases and walk-ins.
• Maintain refrigeration, HVAC, EMS, electrical and mechanical systems and perform repairs.
• Perform preventative maintenance, leak checks, inspections and new equipment installations.
• Record information and maintain compliance forms in paper and electronic systems.
• Monitor work by outside contractors and notify Refrigeration Manager of issues.
• Troubleshoot refrigeration, HVAC, mechanical and electrical problems and document solutions.
• Operate EMS/BMS building controls; fine-tune operating parameters and sequences.
• Order materials, write purchase orders, and enter data for reports.
• Maintain neat, clean, safe work area.
