Job summary

Colorado Premium seeks a Facilities and Refrigeration Director to lead maintenance, PSM/RMP programs, and ammonia systems across all Colorado locations. You will drive capital projects, manage budgets, and provide technical plant-management support.

Based in Denver, you will supervise contractors, ensure safety and regulatory compliance, and enhance reliability through preventative maintenance and KPI tracking.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education/experience.
  • 5–10 years of PSM/RMP/EPA/NFPA/IIAR ammonia refrigeration management experience.
  • Ability to interpret advanced mechanical drawings and schematics.
  • Ability to use diagnostic tools and read technical manuals.
  • Knowledge of OSHA/PSM/EPA/HAZMAT regulations.
  • Ammonia Operator 1 & 2 certification within 1 year.

Reports to: VP of OperationsPosition SummaryAs a member of the Management Team, the Facilities and Refrigeration Director leads the strategic maintenance plan, PSM (Process Safety Management) & RMP (Risk Management Program) and management of the repair and maintenance budget for all facility/refrigeration systems at all of the Colorado Premium locations. Support production efforts by providing technical support to the plant management team on facility/refrigeration maintenance strategies, project planning & work, and equipment issues. Responsible for planning and executing the ongoing maintenance, installation, and/or repair of all ammonia systems for the company at all facilities and will be based out of the Denver, CO facility.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesProvide maintenance perspective and direction for industrial refrigeration systems design, infrastructure, and compliance to develop high efficiency operations. Develop and implement capital projects to improve safety, correct deficiencies, improve efficiency, increase output, support new products and/or reduce cost. Prepare and solicit bids, award contracts, and manage projects to completion. Provide monthly reports updating the status of capital projects.Support daily plant operations by providing direction, maintenance, repair and upkeep of facility equipment including: boilers, air compressors, HVAC, high/low pressure pumps, water supplies and other utilities and associated budgets in collaboration with site management and direct reports. Ensure the facility properly manages the repair, installation and maintenance of ammonia systems to minimize downtime. Constantly be aware and address issues that arise which could adversely affect the operational performance of the facility or the safety of its workers.Select engineering techniques to solve problems and make design or process recommendations. Contribute to successful design or process completion by participating in the resolution of issues such as conflicting design requirements, unsuitability of standard material, and difficult coordination requirements. Assist in determining scope and objectives to contribute to the development of a comprehensive refrigeration project design or process.Select and supervise contractors ensuring compliance with bid specifications and compliance with all EHS/OSHA/EPA policies and regulations, while onsite. Supervise the installation of all capital equipment. Ensure successful completion of the assignment or phase assignment within the budgeted time and cost constraints. Direct preparation of appropriate documentation. Control maintenance and capital budgets within the established guidelines. Develop, implement and maintain the plant’s overall preventative and predictive maintenance program by ensuring that equipment receives scheduled maintenance. This include rebuilding of compressors, valves, pumps and various other mechanical devices. Participate and provide technical expertise for company ammonia PSM (Process Safety Management program). Provide solutions for equipment failures to minimize downtime. Keep adequate records and drawings of all new, existing or modified plant equipment, buildings and utilities.Champion health and safety by maximizing a safe environment and maintaining a trained workforce. Comply with all regulatory agency regulations with respect to the PSM/RMP/Refrigeration program. Provides supervision and training opportunities to refrigeration operators/maintenance technicians. Effectively monitor and analyze maintenance KPI’s. Implement corrective and preventive actions to improve the reliability and performance of team members. Manage maintenance work orders & PM’s to ensure they are completed on time and within budgetEducation/Experience:Bachelor’s degree in a related field, or the equivalent of education and experience.5-10 years of PSM/RMP/EPA/NFPA/IIAR associated ammonia refrigeration management experience, preferably in food manufacturing/cold storage warehouse.Ability to interpret advanced technical mechanical drawings and schematics, and to develop and administer a functional Preventative Maintenance (PM) program.Ability to use hand and diagnostic tools and equipment normally required of refrigeration operator technicians.Knowledge of applicable occupational hazards safety knowledge and ability to conform to all OSHA, PSM, EPA, HAZMAT, NFPA/IIAR and Colorado Premium safety program regulations.May be required to be clean-shaven, if applicable, and be trained in the use of an ammonia rated respirator. Must pass medically required respirator physical assessment and fit testing.Excellent reading, communication, and organizational skills. Must be proficient in the use of a Personal Computer (PC) and related business software. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.Ability to read and comprehend simple and advanced instructions, correspondence, and technical manuals and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present technical information in one-on-one and small group situations to other associates of the organization.Must currently have or obtain Ammonia Operator 1 & 2 within a one-year time frame from and accredited organization such as GCAP, RHETA or similar educational and hands on training system.Must have the ability to comprehend and apply the advanced technical physics and science of ammonia refrigeration and reach out to industry experts when necessary to solve problems, issues or potential issues as they arise.Important Notice: This job description is a generalized summary of job duties and can be modified as determined as necessary by Colorado Premium.
