Responsibilities

  • Leads a team of unit operators to ensure safe, efficient and reliable operations to optimize plant production and HSE objectives.
  • Ensures compliance with PSM, writes first reports of incidents, participates in investigations and HAZOP studies, and maintains procedures.
  • Familiar with refinery safety/environmental practices and hazards; supports start-up, shutdown, and unusual operations.
  • Provides leadership and direction to operating personnel, meets operating plan, handles safety/environmental issues, and coordinates maintenance prep.
  • Collaborates with refinery departments to implement changes and safety improvements.
  • Maintains supervisor logs and process data to track results against goals.
  • Ensures standard operating procedures and management of change records are kept up to date.
  • Communicates feedback to team and stakeholders on improvements for unit areas.
  • Conducts periodic plant inspections with operators to maintain housekeeping standards.

PURPOSE AND ROLE

The Refinery Shift Supervisor is responsible for leading an assigned shift of refinery operators. This includes providing technical and daily refinery operations support, as well as troubleshooting. This supervisory position will address safety and environmental issues, prepare equipment for maintenance, and handle team personnel issues.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Leads a team of unit operators to ensure safe, efficient and reliable operations to optimize all plant production and HSE objectives.
  • Ensures compliance with PSM which includes writing First Reports of incidents, participating in and leading incident investigations and HAZOP studies, and both writing and editing operating manuals procedures.
  • Thoroughly familiar with refinery safety and environmental practices, procedures, and environmental hazards of the process materials, chemicals and catalysts in assigned area with operating crews on specific jobs, on shutdown and start-up procedures, and on unusual operations.
  • Provides leadership and direction to operating personnel in assigned area. This includes meeting the operating plan, handling safety and environmental issues, preparing equipment for maintenance, and handling personnel issues, administering corrective action as needed.
  • Collaborates with refinery departments to implement change, eg. plant improvement schemes, safety suggestions.
  • Maintains Operations Supervisors logs, plus other operating and lab data, against desired results.
  • Ensuring standard operating procedures, management of change process and any deviations are recorded.
  • Effectively communicates feedback to team and stakeholders on possible improvements for unit areas.
  • Periodically inspects the plant with operators to maintain excellent housekeeping standards.
REQUIREMENTS
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Associate of Science (or higher level) degree in Process Technology with operations experience preferred
  • Ability to work a rotating Dupont shift schedule.
  • Intermediate computer skills in Microsoft Office software such as Excel, Outlook, Internet, etc.
  • Professional demeanor; able to effectively build relationships with all levels of staff, internal and external customers.
  • Strong time management skills with attention to detail.
  • Must be organized; able to multi-task, and to prioritize assignments.
  • Strong communication in both written and verbal.
EXPERIENCE & SKILLS
  • Ten years of strong refinery operations leadership; Refinery operations experience required; knowledge of refinery operations preferably in Crude Distillation, Hydrotreating processes, Reformate process, Plant Utilities and tank farm operations, process control methods, and control parameters while possessing current knowledge of all operating procedures and Safety, Work and Environmental policies, rules and procedures required.
  • Responsible for decisions and approvals of projects and programs significantly affecting a department/ division of the Company.
  • Responsible for analyzing detailed programs that require significant study and have multiple solutions.
  • Ability to work under pressure, handle stress and meet deadlines in a rapidly changing environment
  • Knowledge and practice of safety and compliance regulations required.
  • Strong leadership skills to foster teamwork
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written)
  • Ability to effectively communicate with personnel at all organizational levels, vendors, and state/federal regulators
  • Working knowledge of Environmental, Health & Safety, Process Safety Management, and Security regulations
